A Unique Opportunity
The Viticulture Technician will assist with all activities that drive the development and maintenance of our viticulture programs to support the viticulturist’s objectives on yield and quality for the Southern vineyards of Sebastian Farms.
Daily Responsibilities:
· Promote a safe work environment by ensuring all activities comply with the company safety policy and provincial and federal regulations.
· Assist the viticulture program to achieve target yields and quality on a block by block basis. This program will include functions such as pruning, canopy management, shoot and cluster thinning and irrigation scheduling.
· Monitor vineyards for phenology, pest and diseases and report back to the viticulturist.
· Monitor soil and vine nutrient status to assist in determining fertilizer and compost programs.
· Monitor plant water status.
· Assess vineyards and provide viticultural support/recommendation to the viticulturist.
· Track all viticulture programs on computer databases for analysis and review for continuous improvement and quality.
· Supervise the work of seasonal vineyard technicians as required.
· Participate in fruit maturity sampling programs, anthocyanin data collection and related harvest activities.
· Continue to develop an array of vineyard operations skills relating to manual tasks and equipment operation.
· Carry out field trials and cooperate with research organizations on industry research projects
About You
Do you have what is takes?
· Certificate or Diploma in viticulture, plant sciences or related program
· Experience working in a vineyard setting is an asset.
· Experience using technology for capture and reporting (e.g., GPS data collection systems)
· Valid BC Driver’s license and clean driving record
· Eligible to work in Canada
