We are looking for a highly detail-oriented cellar hand and lab technician to assist with all our winemaking and vineyard operations. The candidate will be a highly motivated, self-driven employee with a keen eye on detail interested in learning all aspects of the winemaking industry from vine to bottle.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean, sanitize and sterilize equipment, tanks, and barrels
- Carry out wine movements, barrel work
- Add chemicals to wine as required (inoculations and additions)
- Operate cellar equipment including pumps, cleaning apparatus, and crush pad equipment (presses, crusher-de-stemmers, auger systems), forklifts, etc.
- Apply good housekeeping practices and follow all safe cellar practices
- Laboratory analysis of all wines and juices using Foss system and wet chemistry
Vineyard Related Responsibilities
- vineyard monitoring
- pruning, shoot thinning, picking (all variety of hand work)
- repairing trellis and irrigation
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- General knowledge of mechanical equipment
- Forklift operation and safety (handling of fruit and barrels essential) with licence preferred
- Driver’s licence
- Strong problem solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Multitask and meet deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
Required Education and Experience:
- University or college education in viticulture or enology preferred
- 2-3 years experience working in a winery preferred
Physical Requirements
- Walk, kneel, and stand for long periods of time, walk on wet surfaces; climb ladders; lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Able to work rotating shifts, OT, and weekends, particularly during harvest.
