Harvest Winemaker- Contract

Job Description:


As harvest winemaker you will work in partnership with the winemaking and vineyard team to ensure the highest quality throughout the entire production process. This winemaking position will offer the potential to become full time once the harvest and primary winemaking is concluded. Rockway is focused on making high quality vineyard driven wines and is excited to find the right candidate to fit this creative and rewarding role.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Monitor disease/pest pressures in vineyard and deliver weekly report 

  • Monitor and direct vineyard labour to ensure quality requirements are met

  • Prepare all equipment and supplies for harvest

  • Carry a strict approach to maintaining a high level of winery sanitation

  • Manage and execute harvesting/processing/fermentation in accordance with protocols

  • Ensure all regulatory compliances are met 

  • Record daily weights/rackings/transfers/additions in accurate and timely manner

  • Schedule all required lab work and utilize any in-house capabilities

  • Manage the maintenance of equipment and procurement of supplies needed to operate the winery in a safe and efficient manner

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required

  • Follow regulatory protocols around Covid-19


Qualifications:

  • Proven qualification in winemaking

  • Has worked a minimum of 3 harvests or 2 consecutive years at a winery 

  • Must be a Canadian resident or already be residing in the country and legally permitted to work

  • Must carry a valid drivers license

  • Must carry a valid forklift license



Qualities:

  • Must support a positive and team centric environment

  • Clear and proficient communicator with ability to work under pressure

  • Strong public speaking skills and willingness to be in public eye

  • Willingness to go the distance to complete tasks in a proper and safe method

  • Willingness to ask for help when needed

  • Willing to work extended hours as needed to ensure quality demands are met while maintaining the safety of oneself and others

  • Creative ideas to improve process or develop new products

  • Ability to drive a tractor and trailer is a bonus
