Okanagan Crush Pad Winery (OCP) in Summerland, BC is seeking an experienced winemaker to join their team, working with Chief Winemaker, Matt Dumayne. OCP is a 40,000 case facility that is home to Haywire and Narrative wines in addition to producing wine for several other licensed wineries. The winery has been designed with state-of-the-art equipment and tools (including 120,000 litres of concrete tank space), to facilitate the production of multiple small lots of wine. In 2016, Okanagan Crush Pad processed over 650 tons and in 2017 610 tons. At peak, there are 300+ different lots of wine in the cellar. With many moving parts, a keen eye for detail and processes is essential. Wine style has been shaped by Dumayne, who joined the team in 2013, with Italian winemaker Alberto Antonioni playing a key role. The team is commitment to minimal intervention winemaking, using certified organic grapes. OCP prides itself on its innovations and leadership position within the BC wine industry.
OCP seeks a passionate, qualified individual with previous experience to join our team.
Key Role
- Lead winemaking duties including pressing, fermentation, racking, filtering, sensory analysis, lab analysis, blending and bottling
- The ability to interface and manage various custom crush clients
- Work to maintain an established, consistent wine making style for our own brands with a goal to enhance quality incrementally from year to year
- Ensuring a clean and safe workplace
- Hire, train, schedule and supervise seasonal/occasional staff, as required
Qualifications
- A Canadian work visa or citizenship/passport is mandatory
- A team player attitude and experience leading, teaching and managing direct report
- A minimum of eight years of relevant experience and roles in management
- Experience making sparkling wine in all methods
- Competent in executing laboratory analyses. Able to operate an Oenofoss lab analysis unit and maintain VQA Registered lab status
- A passion for minimal intervention winemaking techniques and previous experience with this style of wine
- High attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Public relations experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a keen interest in problem solving when it comes to winery equipment and operations
- Sound computer knowledge and detail oriented record keeping complete with excellent excel skills
- Fork lift operator certificate and superb skills
