In February 2016 Colio Estates Wines Inc. purchased Thornbury Craft Co. which was established in 2007 and through time has become Ontario’s Number 1 Craft Cidery. Our Thornbury Brewery produces award winning Craft Beers such as Clark is Session IPA, Blue Mountain Light Lager, Ladder Run and other styles of beer sold and served at our Tap Room and licensees across Ontario. Our Pick-Up Pilsner and Ladder Run Amber Lager have both won Best in Country at the World Beer Awards.

Our Cider House produces multi award-winning top selling Craft Ciders at the LCBO, Grocery and Colio’s Retail Chain of stores. We produce many types of ciders, such as Thornbury Premium Apple Cider, Cranberry, Honey Crisp, Spiced Apple and Wild Blueberry Elderflower. We offer other ciders at our on-site retail store and Tap Room. We pride ourselves on using only top quality ingredients and 100% local fresh-pressed Ontario apples. Recently Thornbury Craft Co. won 6 Medals at the most recent All Canadian Wine Championships which demonstrates our commitment to producing the very best Ciders in Canada.

As part of our expansion and succession planning strategy, we require a full-time Assistant Cider Master at our Thornbury location. This position will report to and will work closely with the Cider Master. This position will focus on the day-to-day execution of our cider production and play a lead role in our innovation program leading to opportunities for future advancement depending upon the candidate’s qualifications, abilities, character and passion for everything related to Craft Cider.

 

Position Summary

  • Responsible for all aspects of cider-making including fermentation, aging, filtration, carbonation, finishing various ciders.

  • Assist the Cider Master in creating new cider flavours and blends.

  • Perform quality testing throughout the cider making and packaging process.

  • Perform sensory evaluations of the ciders: appearance, aromas, flavours, body, and finish.

  • Create and update records ensuring the accuracy and validity of information.

  • Cleaning and sanitizing of tanks and equipment.

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and passion for all things Craft Cider.

  • Requires the ability to assess the flavours and aromas of all ciders.

  • Able to prioritize, coordinate, and manage multiple activities.

  • Methodical with strong attention to detail & accuracy to ensure we produce consistent, high-quality cider.

  • Can lead a team towards continuous improvement.

  • Proven ability to deliver great results.

  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbally.

  • Creative thinker that possesses strong problem-solving skills individually and in a team setting.

  • A self-starter with high energy levels and a “does what it takes” attitude.

 

Work Experience Assets:

  • Cider making experience in a Cider House or Winery setting.

  • Experience with filtration and pumps.

  • Experience with Quality testing such as specific gravity, % acid, % alcohol, %CO2V.

  • Organoleptic skills/experience.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Food Production/Science/Oenology or related field.is preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Physically fit and able to lift up to 25 Kg.
