Vineyard Manager
An entrepreneurial, fast-paced medium sized winery in Niagara is looking for an energetic individual to join as a Vineyard Manager. This is an opportunity for the right individual looking to advance their career in viticulture in the production of premium grapes under the leadership of our Director of Operations.
About Us:
Our 25 year old vineyard and winery are located at Vineland, at the most elevated altitude point of the Niagara Escarpment. The vineyard is approximately 80 Acres and is planted with Riesling, Chardonnay, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. We produce approximately 60 000 cases / year across several brands and the demand for our premium portfolio is consistently growing. We are also continuously looking at future plantation and change in our practices in order to improve the quality of our portfolio.
In order to achieve our objectives of grape quality for Premium, we are seeking for the right manager that combines passion and professionalism on the premium vineyard management.
Our ideal candidate profile will:
· Develop and Manage vineyard Plan and a related budget
· Implement best vineyard practices relatives to variety, terroir and allocated tiers.
· Manage daily operations related to our vineyards (Hand labour, equipment, spray program).
· Build, Train and manage a vineyard team
· Purchase, maintain and ability to operate Vineyard equipment
· Reporting as required by the management team.
· Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulation
· Ensure Employee Health and Safety policies and procedures are well set.
· Liaise with winemaking to meet quality/quantity expectations.
Requirements for this position is as follows:
· A minimum of 5 years of vineyard management
· A degree in Viticulture by a recognized institution
· A natural leadership with the ability to adapt to change/challenges
· Team player with the ability to interconnect with other players
· Ability to drive tractors, operate equipment
· Physically fit and able to work outdoors throughout the year
· Self-efficient with ability to solve problems with forward thinking.
· Spray license will be an asset
