St. George’s Golf & Country Club is expanding our hospitality team and we are in search of an experienced, wine-knowledgeable individual to provide guests with an engaging wine experience. Reporting to the Manager of Food & Beverage, the Sommelier will possess a passion for hospitality and excellent customer service and communications skills. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Will be responsible for selecting and consolidating the wine list by adhering to the budget and beverage cost, the requests of the guests and the concept of the outlets.
- In charge of purchasing wine & beers for the Club and maintain a positive and professional relationship with vendors, in line with Club standards
- Responsible for weekly and monthly wine inventories of all F&B outlets and for creating, modifying and printing the wine list.
- Lead in maintaining accuracy and efficiency of wine stock movement, requisition and transfers, as well as provide reporting and working closely with the Food & Beverage Manager and the Executive Chef
- Continuously find ways to improve the efficiency of the operation and maximising and increasing sales and/or yield (in revenue centres)
- Be responsible for and accountable for the wine cost
- Serving food and beverages to members + guests as well as making wine pairing recommendations to guests
- Set up and monitor wine training programmes for the department staff
- Demonstrate a high standard of personal appearance, always wearing a complete & clean uniform and ensuring good personal hygiene
Qualifications:
- Must have at least three (3) years of previous experience in a five star restaurant service type environment and wine education, experience in a private or member club an asset
- Sommelier Accreditation required
- Excellent organizational, management, leadership, communication and problem solving skills
- Ability to handle conflicting deadlines and escalate issues accordingly
- a high level of professionalism and customer-service attitude
- self-motivated team player with a strong work ethic
- Experience working with high end wine products as well as with purchasing and working with wine vendors / suppliers
- Smart Serve Certified
