Azhadi Vineyards is a new destination winery under construction and scheduled to open Fall 2025 in Kelowna, BC. Azhadi Vineyards is a privately held company within the Azhadi Group, a group of companies which develops and operates wineries and vineyards throughout the Okanagan Valley, including the established Ex Nihilo Vineyards in Lake Country, BC.
Position Summary
Azhadi Vineyards is seeking a passionate and creative Chef de Cuisine to lead the culinary program at our fine dining winery restaurant. This role is responsible for delivering exceptional food that enhances the wine experience, managing all aspects of kitchen operations, and leading a high-performing culinary team. The ideal candidate brings a refined approach to cuisine, a deep respect for local ingredients, and strong leadership in an elevated dining environment.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Leadership & Execution
- Design and execute seasonal menus that complement Azhadi’s wine offerings and highlight regional ingredients.
- Maintain the highest standards in food quality, presentation, and consistency.
- Collaborate with the winemaker and FOH leadership to ensure harmony between food and wine pairings.
- Lead the planning and execution of special events, wine-paired dinners, weddings, and concerts.
Team Management & Development
- Recruit, train, and mentor kitchen staff to uphold fine dining standards.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, creativity, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, training sessions, and daily prep meetings.
- Develop staffing schedules and ensure effective task delegation.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, including workflow, cleanliness, and coordination with FOH.
- Monitor food costs, inventory, portion control, and supplier relationships.
- Ensure all health, safety, and sanitation standards are met, including HACCP compliance.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and coordinate maintenance as needed.
Menu Innovation & Local Sourcing
- Curate refined, seasonal menus that reflect Azhadi’s terroir and culinary identity.
- Integrate artisanal, organic, and sustainable products into the dining experience.
- Build relationships with local farmers, purveyors, and specialty producers.
- Innovate with plating, preparation, and presentation techniques.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership culinary role, preferably in a fine dining or winery setting.
- Proven track record of menu development and team leadership.
- Strong knowledge of wine pairing principles and local sourcing.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Understanding of budgeting, food costing, and kitchen efficiency.
- Food Safe certification required; Red Seal or equivalent credential preferred.
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and event-based shifts.
