Azhadi Vineyards is a new destination winery under construction and scheduled to open Fall 2025 in Kelowna, BC. Azhadi Vineyards is a privately held company within the Azhadi Group, a group of companies which develops and operates wineries and vineyards throughout the Okanagan Valley, including the established Ex Nihilo Vineyards in Lake Country, BC.
Position Summary
Azhadi Vineyards is seeking a talented and detail-driven Pastry Chef to lead the pastry and dessert program at our fine dining winery restaurant. This role is responsible for crafting elegant, seasonal desserts that complement our culinary vision and enhance the overall wine and dining experience. The ideal candidate has a refined palate, a passion for creativity, and the technical skills to execute high-end pastry work with consistency and precision.
Key Responsibilities
Pastry Program Development
- Design and execute refined desserts, breads, and baked goods that align with seasonal menus and wine pairings.
- Collaborate with the Chef de Cuisine to develop menus that reflect Azhadi’s culinary identity.
- Innovate with plating, flavor profiles, and presentation to elevate the guest experience.
- Contribute to specialty offerings for wine-paired dinners, weddings, and private events.
Daily Production & Quality Control
- Lead daily pastry production, ensuring consistency, quality, and visual appeal.
- Maintain high standards of organization, cleanliness, and mise en place in the pastry station.
- Oversee prep schedules and production timelines for service and events.
- Ensure all products are executed to the highest level of detail and taste.
Team Collaboration & Mentorship
- Support training of cooks and apprentices in pastry techniques and standards.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen and FOH teams to ensure smooth service flow.
- Assist in mentoring junior staff and fostering a positive, creative kitchen culture.
Inventory, Ordering & Compliance
- Manage pastry inventory and assist with ordering specialty ingredients and supplies.
- Monitor portion control, minimize waste, and help manage pastry-related food costs.
- Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations (Food Safe, HACCP).
- Maintain and ensure cleanliness of all pastry equipment and tools.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in pastry in a fine dining or upscale hospitality environment.
- Strong foundation in classical pastry techniques and modern presentation.
- Creative, detail-oriented, and passionate about seasonal and wine-forward desserts.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Red Seal or equivalent pastry certification preferred.
- Food Safe certification required.
- Flexible availability including weekends, evenings, and special events.
