Director of Marketing

Responsible for leadership and guidance for the marketing team to meet company’s goals and case targets across the West while staying within A&P and operational budgets. To oversee brand management and execution for the AWSM portfolio of wines in Western Canada, observing best industry practices and ethical business methods at all times. Responsible for maximizing market opportunities and seeking new growth potential for the company through development of existing supplier portfolios and through strategic price positioning to drive revenue.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
People/Team Management:
- Manage the marketing team and oversee the social media/graphic designer across Western Canada
- Strategize annual KPIs/goals and disseminate to team members to drive individual KPIs
- Provide direct guidance and support to provincial marketing teams in achieving departmental KPIs
- National link between VP’s to expand national footprint, work collaboratively on national brand presentations and development
Forecast/Budget/Stakeholder Management:
- Achieve high-volume projections and work to meet and exceed overall brand forecasts and western case targets
- Compile A&P quarterly reviews to ensure that each marketing region stays within provincial budgets (operational & A&P) annually and, in tandem with regional Sales Manager across Western Canada, ensure sales teams are accountable for their spending
- Oversee the creation of the brand plan template and execution of annual brand plans developed by marketing team members across the west. Responsible for the first round of edits of all markets forecasts and budgets
- Responsible for top level supplier conversations and escalation point for regional marketing mangers
- Oversee monthly mitigation reviews across the west. Measure, review and track monthly activity for key brands in order to maximize market activity
- Ensure forecasts are accurate are updated in each region and to minimize risks for aging inventory and stock out, review lead times annually to assess if new terms from suppliers are needed and present to the VP
- Build and manage high-level relationships with suppliers and ensure proper communication/delegation for provincial marketing teams
- Oversee Marketing’s liquor board communication and programming across Western Canada to build preferred relationships and capitalize on opportunities
Process Improvement:
- Lead process for internal data reports including annual brand plans, monthly, quarterly and annual forecasting updates, monthly sales reports, budget updates, mitigation planning, etc
- Champion Western Canada portfolio approach, matching opportunity markets with specific brands and products and building go-to market strategies by region in tandem with Marketing managers
- Successfully communicate and partner with other internal departments (Sales, IT, Finance, HR) as required
- Act as National liaison for products, promotions, and drive internal/external processes and efficiencies with Eastern Marketing Managers
Management Team:
- Maintain current knowledge of industry and beverage trends and educate internal and external partners
- Build organization’s reputation through presence at industry events including liaising with suppliers, priority customers, media, and key stakeholders
- Provide input and jointly implement strategic planning as part of Management team
- Cultivate a team atmosphere with engaged and motivated employees
Reporting Structure:
- Direct supervision of BC, AB & MB/SK Marketing Managers, Fine Wine & Spirits Sales & Education, and Marketing Analyst, shared supervision for Graphic Designer and indirect supervision for the Marketing Coordinator
Job Qualifications:
- Experience: Degree in Marketing, 7+ years of marketing management experience including demonstrated ability to drive brand development. 7+ years implementing effective marketing and sales processes, 7+ years high-level team leadership including managing diverse and cross-functional teams with dotted-line reporting structures and driving general operations. Demonstrated experience with successful trade and consumer POS campaigns. Proven project management experience including leading a defined project successfully from inception through completion.
- Skills: Excellent presentation and negotiation skills. Ability to prepare and manage seven-figure budgets, accurately read and interpret data, motivate and inspire teams. High degree of personal integrity and responsibility required
- Knowledge: Expert knowledge of the liquor industry (both wine and spirits products as well as governmental policy and regulations). Expert knowledge of marketing strategy, sales cycle and associated processes. Familiar with accounting terminology and practices, superior skills in Excel, databases and analytics (ability to build/use pivot tables and advanced formulas)
- Physical: Ability to lift 41 lbs.
- Other: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s license in the Province employed, have their own vehicle and must meet the Company’s automobile insurance requirements. Must have and maintain a valid Canadian Passport. Serving it Right certification, WSET Level II or higher.
