We are looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our team as Market Development Manager. This role leads all new brand research and development opportunities for the AWSM portfolio of wine, spirits and beer across Western Canada. The Market Development Manager will liaise with potential suppliers and oversee all steps from initial point of contact to placing orders and following up with in-market execution. This is an opportunity for a wine, spirits and beer aficionado with industry experience to further develop their skill sets and market expertise, obtaining wide ranging experience across the West and working in close collaboration with marketing, sales and logistics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

AuthentiGate Process - Competitive Analysis & Market Intelligence: 

·     Review ongoing market trends and competitive activity to identify overall portfolio and new brand/sku opportunities

·     Liaise with new suppliers to evaluate products, pricing and market opportunities with a focus on entry level offerings. Work on two tiered pricing structure with Business & Costing Analyst for scenarios

·     Host AuthentiGate and potential suppliers for in-market meetings and market tours

·     Build pitch decks as needed for new suppliers using AWSM’s corporate template

·     Document each new supplier correspondence and materials in AWSM AuthentiGate filing system

·     Prepare brief quarterly meeting presentations and tastings to get feedback of sales force in relation to potential new LRS and on-premise skus

·     Coordinate office team tastings to get team feedback on proposed new skus

·     Work closely with logistics to ensure samples clearance on track, registration details and LOAs are complete and on file, and inventory ordered as necessary

·     Create and submit listing applications for BCLS pitches and tenders and update the listing call grid

·     Lead correspondence with EW for all head off pitches

·     Prepare email pitch templates for Director of Sales for private BC chain submissions and update the chain submission grid, attend chain meetings as necessary to assist with product pitches

·     Prepare Monthly update for newly accepted products/AuthentiGate Wins in each market and send summary to full AWSM West Management team

·     Enter and monitor forecasts and A&P for new AuthentiGate brands  

·     Once a product is moved from a one-time buy BCLS status to a regular listing or multiple re-orders, introduce appropriate Marketing Manager to become the new lead with the supplier. For all suppliers with skus only in the private market, with One Time Buys or ongoing re-orders, retain supplier relationship. Review supplier list bi-annually with Director of Marketing.

 

Brand Plans:

·     Enter and monitor forecasts for assigned brands in BC, review A&P and activity needs with Director of Marketing

 

E-Commerce:

·     Lead correspondence with Liquify and BuyABLE for new product features, e-blasts, and special offers/blow-outs

·     In tandem with Graphics Designer, investigate ways to utilize mail chimp for AuthentiGate offers

 

Administrative Responsibilities: 

·     Assist VP Sales in pulling data reports for pitch supplier presentations

·     Assist Director of Sales in coordinating sample shipments to chains

·     Assist Director of Marketing in managing samples process 

·     Build and manage annual wine fair schedules (Prowein/VinExpo etc) and lead development of hand-outs in tandem with Graphic Designer

·     Update corporate presentation overview

·     Maintain accurate and current data and systems within the AWSM marketing systems

·     Manage expenses and any promotional spending within company guidelines

 

Job Requirements:

 

·     Experience: University degree (BCom preferred) in Marketing or equivalent discipline and/or minimum of 2-3 years portfolio management experience in the beverage alcohol industry or other important consumer products.  You will have a portfolio of examples of your work to date. 

·     Skills: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Must be highly organized, and display excellent motivation and leadership abilities.  You should be prepared to provide examples of your written work.  You must have great PC skills (Windows: Word/Excel) and be able to extensively use the CH/AWSM systems and web-based applications for planning activities.  Must be able to juggle multiple situations, be self motivated and able to work independently.

·     Knowledge:  Working knowledge of the beverage alcohol industry or of trade marketing dynamics.  Successful completion of wine and spirit courses is desirable (such as WSET).

·     Physical: Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and travel (includes overnight stays).  Must be physically fit and be able to lift and carry 41+ pounds and able to build displays or handle heavy POS material.

·     Other: Must possess and maintain a valid BC Driver’s license and have a vehicle that can be used for business purposes (mileage allowance).  Must have and maintain a valid Canadian Passport

 

Other Preferred Job Qualifications: Existing trade relationships within the wine, spirit, hospitality industry.  Minimum 2-3 years trade marketing experience overall.
