Alberta Sales and Key Accounts Manager (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

Main Responsibilities 

 

This position will work closely with the Managing Partners of Vintage West Wine Marketing (VWWM).   This position will collaborate and assist with the development and execution of VWWM sales and marketing strategies and execution as they pertain to each supplier and brand.  Position will ensure sales and profit targets are met or exceeded. 

 

Key accounts

 

  • Develop strong working relationships with all key Chain Accounts in Alberta - from key buyers to upper management.  Key contact / liaison with key account personnel to present new product proposals / promotional programming /ensure adequate inventory to support provincial sales.  
  • Ensure volume and profit targets are met with each of the 10 key chain accounts (within allotted budget) 
  • Develop and Manage targeted restaurant groups and high volume, on premise image accounts throughout Alberta.  
  • Responsible for managing and maintain budgets for all these accounts 
  • Responsible for ensuring relationships and implementation of programming and distribution at individual chain stores (by reps and managers own accounts,# accounts tbd) 
  • Constantly explores opportunities with chains and suppliers to fill gaps and capitalize on market trends 
  • In addition to chain account management and development, individual account calls will be necessary with select and defined A class retail and on premise accounts.  List TBD

 

Sales Management/Supervisory Duties 

  •  Directs and coordinates activities of the field sales staff with responsibility to achieve company goals and objectives.
  • Leads, manages and mentors sales people to achieve goals individually and for overall company (monthly, quarterly, and annually).  Provides constructive timely feedback on all activities and results to sales people; verbal and written.
  • Conducts regular sales meetings (weekly conference call) to ensure results are being met and issues and opportunities are being handled.
  • Directs sales channel development activity and coordinates sales distribution by establishing sales territories, quotas, and goals. Ensure retail distribution standards and licensee penetration objectives are achieved. 
  • Monitors and manages provincial promotional spend and sales team T&E expenditures to ensure corporate objectives are met and spending is within provincial budget.  
  • Follows, encourages and adheres to the Vintage West Ways of Working
  • Fosters an environment of cooperation, learning, and support amongst the sales and marketing staff 

Other duties 

  • Assists in all promotional events in Alberta – wine maker visits, media events and tastings.  Represents Company at trade functions and wine tastings as needed to promote portfolio. 
  • Monitor all provincial results versus plan and versus category trend.  Ensure regional knowledge of market conditions, sales trends, product developments and competitor activity.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to Managing Director.  Provide monthly report to reflect key business issues / successes and performance versus objectives. 
  • Meets with key retailers, assisting sales representative with maintaining relationships and negotiating and closing programs.
  • Ensuring proper brand and sku placement according to established objectives by trade channel, and by account will be a top priority
  • Developing and up keeping an in depth understanding of Vintage West suppliers and their brands is paramount to success.   Ability to relay ‘brand’ stories and key selling points to consumers and customers effectively is required.
  • Managing promotional and sample budgets to effectively promote and leverage the VWWM brands, in accordance with the guidelines and boundaries of the company
  • Ensure that all activities are conducted within the Provincial laws and regulations of each province – particularly those related to trade practices.
  • Assists in manage stock requirements for Alberta including; depletion forecasting, preparing monthly forecast updates internally and troubleshoot inventory related issues.
  • Special projects  may be assigned in addition to the items listed above
  • Occasional over night travel may be required

 

Minimum Experience and Qualifications Required (please do not apply without equivalent experience)

  • Minimum 3 years Sales Management experience in the alcohol beverage business
  • Minimum 5 years Key or Chain Account Management experience in the Alberta alcohol beverage business
  • Must have a detailed understanding of the alcohol beverage business in the Prairies provinces including trade channel management and Liquor Board relationships
  • University degree or College diploma equivalent
  • Wines and Spirits education from WSET or organization equivalent
  • Strategic thinker – able to analyze data and present to team and customers
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Industry references required
