Nestled on benchland overlooking the Similkameen Valley, Seven Stones Winery is a 100% estate winery well-known for its full-bodied red wines, a spectacular view and its mysterious caves. Built with a solid reputation for producing blends and single varietal reds, Seven Stones is a leader in the British Columbia wine industry.
We are seeking a self motivated intern to join our winemaking team for the duration of our 2021 growing season and harvest with the possibility of an extension into a permanent mentored position for the correct fitting individual.
The winery facility plans to produce approximately 4,000 cases this year. You will have the opportunity to work with high quality, cool climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, Malbec and Petite Verdot.
This is a seasonal position that will start immediately and will finish at the end of November. You will be working under the supervision of the consulting winemaking and vineyard manager.
The ideal candidate will have completed a formal winemaking education or is working towards its completion but those with some cellar experience will also be considered. Beyond a formal education, it is important to us that you are energetic, driven, personable, flexible, and keen on producing wine of outstanding quality.
Job expectations will include, but are not limited to:
- Basic lab work (sugar and pH/TA)
- Assisting with fruit intake and weight data collection
- Forklift operation (experience preferred)
- Fruit sorting
- Ferment management (sampling, sugar/temp tracking, cap management, additions)
- Pressing (draining ferments, digging out, etc)
- Racking
- Barreling down
- Barrel washing/steaming
- Lots and lots of winery cleaning and sanitation
- Other general winery and vineyard operations / maintenance as required
- assist with bottling of finished wines and warehousing of goods as required
Candidate must be flexible to work varying shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, sit, walk, climb ladders and flights of stairs, stoop and kneel, and lift and carry up to 25 kgs repeatedly. Must be able to understand, read, speak and write English. Must have the right to work in Canada. Must comply with all safety protocols and perform all duties with the utmost duty of care.
Tractor and machinery experience would be useful, but not essential
You must have your own transport and a valid drivers licence for British Columbia.
Compensation DOE. Housing is not included but a commuting per diem will be offered. During vintage, we endeavor to provide one free meal for all vintage staff on most work days.
