(Wine Jobs:
Vineyards & Cellars )
Full Time
Parsell Vineyard
Central Saanich, Vancouver Island,
British Columbia
We are a small, startup family vineyard and farm in Central Saanich, BC, on Vancouver Island, currently seeking our first FT employee to help us grow an estate organic and biodynamic winery business. For the right person, there is room to grow with this position.
At this time, our needs are varied, and we are seeking a hardworking, handy, responsible, flexible, and self-motivated person to join our family team beginning August 21.
Flexibility in this position is key while we grow, and tasks will include both winery/vineyard and housekeeping help in our busy family. At this time, job duties vary widely and will include at minimum cellar work, harvest work, winery work, vineyard work, gardening and landscaping work, farm work, property maintenance, housekeeping/cleaning tasks, and assistance with various household and family errands, including school and lesson runs for children.
In future, the position may include winemaking tasks (we will train) or work in our family tasting room, and this is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to take his or her first steps in the wine industry and to learn the business from the ground up.
Additional requirements:
Must be eligible to work and drive legally in Canada, with a clean driving record and no criminal record;
Must be physically able and willing to learn how to operate farm equipment;
Must be able to lift 25 KG (standard farm bag sizes) and able to do sustained physical labor, including repetitive fine-motor tasks such as pruning with appropriate safety measures;
Must be able to work independently and problem solve, with good mechanical aptitude (e.g. we can show you how to fix a weed whacker or drive a tractor, but we need someone able to learn quickly);
Must be interested in winery and landscaping work but no experience is required;
Must be able to pass basic written tests on safety practices in the wine and farm industry as required;
College degree or training in winemaking or viticulture is strongly preferred but not required;
Must be professional and able to work well with the public in a service oriented environment.
This is a salaried position, and winter hours may be less and summer hours may be more than 40 hours a week, especially during the harvest in September or October (but the annual weekly total is not to exceed 40 hours average). Typical work day is 9 AM - 5 PM, but there will be the occasional early morning start twice a month during the autumn and winter months as well as during our harvest period. Harvest may also involve weekend work hours. Starting salary is $30,000 a year.
How To Apply
To apply, please send a detailed letter of application, including a resume, and the email addresses and telephone numbers of three work and character references outside of family or friends. We will only be able to contact successful applicants for interviews. Interviews will take place in late July and early August, and references will be called only for finalists.
