Quai Du Vin Estate Winery (Future home of SKYE CHASE ESTATE WINERY) is a boutique winery, surrounded by picturesque grounds & operating inside a charming, vintage-style facility in Sparta, Ontario along Lake Erie’s pastoral North Shore.

We are looking to hire a solid, dependable individual as our Assistant Winemaker to join our team to ensure that our wine is flowing, our brand is growing & our customers remain as pleased as always! The successful candidate’s job will be varied, and no two days being the same!

The ideal candidate will be an outgoing creative individual, have in-depth knowledge and passion for wine, with a genuine desire to be a part of a team that is dedicated to delivering excellence with every bottle and winery experience.

The driving passion of this person who will report to the Head Winemaker, is to tend to the day-to-day operations of the cellar while ensuring a safe working environment. The role will also include interacting with our visitors and guests by providing personal, memorable experiences that reflect the unique culture of Quai Du Vin / Skye Chase. Unparalleled customer service is expected, whether it is through the tasting experience, winemakers’ dinners, education and tours. This is a development role that will grow with us over the years therefore we welcome all experience levels.

What You Can Expect:

• Work with the Head Winemaker to execute all parts of the winemaking process

• Cellar tasks including but not limited to cleaning and sanitizing cellar fittings, hoses, tanks,

barrels, and wine processing equipment

• Wine Movement: Racking, blending, barrel filling, etc.

• Scheduling and supply management

• Actively assist in blending and additions trials and sensory evaluation

• Execute vineyard and cellar tours on an as-scheduled basis

• Packaging and bottling

• Laboratory work, with an emphasis on QC and problem solving

• Inventory tracking and record keeping

• Help set-up for events

• General housekeeping by making sure that facility is kept clean and orderly

• Any other tasks assigned by manager

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Winemaking or related degree

• 1 – 3 years of Winery/Cellar/Vineyard experience is a must

• Forklift experience a plus

• Ability to lift 55 lbs

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:

• Valid Driver’s License and insurance

• Smart Serve

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• The ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction when required

• Attention to details

• Creative, flexible, and innovative team player

• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

• Good written, verbal and oral communication skills

• Flexible schedule that allows to work various shifts and overtime as needed

• Have a passion and interest in continuing to learn about winemaking and quickly comes up to speed and showcases proficiency in Quai du Vin wine & vineyard knowledge

• Ability to develop and maintain effective operating and control processes designed to attain maximum operating efficiency while ensuring adherence to established operating criteria

• Computer skills – computer skills required for operation and report maintenance and tracking including High level of Excel knowledge

• Must be able to communicate effectively with consumers, trade guests, employees, management and vendors. Must be able to effectively lead tastings and speak to groups of consumers, answer questions and respond in a professional manner

• Attendance/Schedule – This is a permanent full-time position, in a 7-day per week environment. Will require weekend and holiday work

• Demonstrates honest character, positive attitude, enthusiasm, is approachable, welcoming, and genuine

• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks

• Professionalism in appearance/demeanor

• Must be at least 21 years of age
