The Winery Association of Nova Scotia/Wine Growers Nova Scotia (www.winesofnovascotia.ca) was formed in 2002 to represent the interests of wine producers in the province, to serve as a voice for local industry and to promote the growth and development of Nova Scotia wines. WGNS is committed to building excellence throughout every aspect of the industry, forging partnerships and attracting potential investors, ultimately catapulting the Wines of Nova Scotia onto the world stage. It is currently operating under a strategic plan where the priorities have been identified as follows:
• Building capacity and alignment through strong leadership, effective governance, financial sustainability and communications and collaboration among wineries, partners and stakeholders.
• Creating conditions for growth and expansion by working collaboratively and proactively with
government and partners to advocate for what the wine industry needs to thrive – and also by conducting research and trends analysis to stay on top of issues and opportunities.
• Growing markets by conducting market research, targeting key markets, executing savvy and cost-effective marketing strategies and focusing outreach efforts on influencers and consumers.

WANS/WGNS is seeking a dynamic and engaging individual who has experience in export, marketing and event management. This individual has the ability to quickly learn in role and have the confidence to lead the export file, engaging with varied industry stakeholders with different business models. This is an exciting role for someone who is eager and passionate to represent a growing and dynamic Nova Scotia wine industry.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meetings:
- Attend WANS/WGNS AGM and quarterly Board meetings.
- Chair Export Committee.
- Attend WANS/WGNS Policy, Marketing and Technical Committee meetings quarterly
- Represent WANS/WGNS on committees at the national level
- Provide updates on initiatives within export and events, provide planning and administrative support to meetings.
- Facilitate decision making in an orderly, timely and democratic manner for the Export Committee.
Human Resources:
- Meet weekly with the Executive Director (or as required) to ensure ongoing alignment of activities with WGNS strategic and export plans.
- Work with the Executive Director to set priorities and objectives
Member Relations:
- In conjunction with the Executive Director, act as an ambassador and key spokesperson for the association and its member wineries.
- Maintain positive and productive working relationships and collaborative arrangements with WGNS key stakeholders deemed pivotal in helping achieve its Strategic Plan.
- Manage requests coming into WANS/WGNS
Strategic:
- Coordinate the strategic planning for export with the support of the Executive Director and guidance of the Export Committee
- Develop and implement a yearly export and event plan that supports the strategic priorities of WANS/WGNS
Events and Export:
- WANS/WGNS participates in a number of local, national and international events and initiatives and this role would lead the planning, coordination and execution of them
- Assist in the creation of WANS/WGNS creative assets and educational materials for events and export
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the success of Nova Scotia’s wine industry and who has experience in the wine sector and in export.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education with experience in export, stakeholder relations, marketing and project/event management preferred
- Minimum WSET2 required, WSET3 preferred
- Experience in and knowledge of the food and beverage industry, with a specific focus on the Nova Scotia wine industry would be an asset
- Understanding liquor board dynamics, regulations, and policy when it comes to interprovincial trade and international export
- Personal qualities of integrity, objectivity, credibility, and a passion for growing the Nova Scotia wine industry
- A creative and resourceful thinker who is able to deliver with limited resources
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
- The ability to work independently, multi-task with ease and make quick educated decisions
- Experience working with nonprofits and volunteers an asset
- Ability to work a flexible schedule with travel required
- Class 5 drivers license required
