ASSISTANT WINEMAKER– COOPER’S HAWK VINEYARDS

Cooper’s Hawk Vineyards is located within the rapidly growing wine region of Lake Erie North Shore. We are 12 years old and expanding in all areas of our business, including the production and sale of wine. The business is experiencing strong growth due to our exceptional wines and customer centric team. The Vines is our vibrant restaurant with busy events hall that includes indoor and outdoor dining. We are focused on making high quality, market friendly wines and our vineyards are planted in a mixture of red and white vinifera varieties. The vineyard and winery are both well-equipped.
We are seeking a full time ASSISTANT WINEMAKER to assist and support our consulting winemaker. The position will be integral to the day-to-day operations of the winery and will perform a wide range of work that will require a variety of skills. Tasks will include all aspect of winemaking from fruit receival and processing, fermentation management, laboratory analysis, data management to finishing and bottling. Sanitation and cleanliness are a priority at all steps of the process. There will be occasional vineyard work such as yield and maturity control with opportunity to participate in other aspects of vineyard management. Some customer interaction is also part of this role. The role is integral to our team with responsibilities increasing over time.
The ideal candidate will have a good level of fitness and, most importantly, a demonstratable interest and passion in the entire wine making process. You need to be willing, hardworking and not afraid to get dirty or wet – both are guaranteed.
Job Requirements:
· Strong commitment to quality control with attention to detail
· Candidate must be hands-on, dependable, and self-starting.
· Good problem-solving skills
· Great communication skills including record keeping
· Cellar experience is essential
· Experienced in operating filters, presses and other equipment is also required.
· Knowledge of safe cellar practices, including the safe handling of chemicals
· Teamwork and customer service skills
· Ability to work long hours when required, including nights and weekends
· Ability to lift 55 lbs.
· Forklift experience
· A winemaking, viticulture or transferable qualification is desired.
· Winery or other laboratory experience
· Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
· Enthusiasm and passion to expand wine knowledge
Compensation is fair and commensurate with experience. You must be legally able to work in Canada at the time of application.
