Trail Estate Winery, based in Prince Edward County, Ontario, is known for making wines outside the box. Our style is low-intervention (usually always wild ferment and unfiltered) across award-winning Chardonnays, Rieslings, Pinot Noirs, Pét Nats and Orange Wines. We’re relentless in pushing accepted norms and want to produce the most exciting and remarkable wines in Canada (to start!).
We are currently seeking candidates for a Retail/Wine Club Sales Lead position. This role has potential to grow and develop within the business. The ideal candidate will have a client-service and sales focus with a can-do attitude, positive spirit and a love of low-intervention wine.
The successful candidate will run and oversee the winery’s day-to-day retail and customer service responsibilities in conjunction with management.
Core responsibilities include:
- Tasting room sales with a goal of robust sales growth year/year
- Setting weekly sales targets
- Assist with marketing materials/social campaigns/email campaigns
- Driving wine club recruitment
- Continuously deliver superior service for our Wine Club Members
- Organizing wine club/wine launch events
- Cellar tours/tastings
- Manage bookings
- Recruiting and training new staff. Work to continually elevate staff wine knowledge.
- Wine club shipments and online order fulfilment ensuring all logistics and payment are complete and timely
- Sales staff training, scheduling, time tracking, tip tracking
- Creating sales/events/marketing plans, executing, reporting
- Sales tracking and reporting by channel
- Ability to maximize sales/visit
- Maintain exceptionally clean and orderly conditions within the tasting room, including shelf stocking, updating tasting sheets, and organizing store merchandise
- Creating a warm, welcoming environment, ensuring that guests are provided with an educational and enjoyable visit and tasting experience
- Operation of POS and administrative systems
- Providing mentorship to tasting room staff and managing day-to-day tasting room activities to achieve sales goals and grow our customer base.
- Ensures the team operates according to standards of guest services program and customer service and that company policies and procedures are followed by all staff members
Prior experience should include:
- Minimum 2 years retail/sales experience, preferably in the wine industry
- The ability to address customer issues and concerns in a professional and friendly manner
- Hands-on experience in a wine environment - Cellar, Tasting Room, or Vineyard or WSET 2/3 or equiv.
- Hands on hospitality/service experience
- Budgeting/sales forecasting and general excel wizard
- Ability of manage both large and small groups
- Proven process implementation experience
- Experience with cash management
Requirements:

- A self-starter, able to conceptualize, plan, cost and execute
- Obsessed with continual improvement
- Current on wine trends and wine news
- Detail oriented, with competency in writing style and grammar
- Proficient computer skills (Office, google docs, etc)
- Ability to work well under direction, within a team and also independently
- Smart-serve certified
- Must be 21 years or older with own/reliable transportation
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including Saturdays, and/or Sundays and holidays
- Knowledge of French is an asset
- Able to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods of time
- Able to work in Canada
This is a non-seasonal position, though the bulk of hours will be in Spring/Summer/Fall with fewer hours in Winter with average of 35-40 hrs/wk over the year.
