Assistant Vineyard Manager
Tantalus Vineyards has been producing internationally recognized wines off of its 45-acre estate vineyard in British Columbia's Central Okanagan Valley since 2005, farming BC's oldest, continuously-producing vineyard (the property has been growing grapes since 1927). We have been fortunate to receive high acclaim for our Riesling program out of the gates, and, as production of our Pinot noir, Chardonnay, and sparkling wines has grown in recent years, these too have been quietly garnering international attention. Our state-of-the-art, LEED-certified winery is the first and only of its kind in BC.
In an effort to strengthen our viticulture team we are looking to hire an Assistant Vineyard Manager. The position is permanent full-time and reports directly to the Viticulturist/Vineyard Manager.
Duties include but are not limited to:

assist in planning and executing vineyard operations from pruning to harvest

lead and supervise a team of seasonal workers in the vineyard

perform tractor operations such as spraying and maintain tractors and vineyard equipment

maintain, upgrade, and operate irrigation systems and other vineyard infrastructure

coordinate harvest logistics

maintain grounds at winery and on-site residences

assist in winery operations such as bottling when needed
Requirements :

four to five years of vineyard experience of which a minimum of two in a supervisory role

strong skills in the operation of tractors and other vineyard equipment and their maintenance as well as a mechanical aptitude

strong skills in written and spoken English

class 5 driver's license and have experience driving pickup trucks with trailers

the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for 40-60 hours a week including weekends and holidays, depending on the season

experience and pronounced interest in organic, biodynamic, and regenerative agriculture
Formal viticulture education, Spanish speaking skills, a can-do attitude, and the ability to think beyond the scope of viticulture are considered an asset.
This position is compensated in form of a salary, includes paid vacation time, and is eligible for the company benefits program.
