Assistant Winemaker (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Full Time

  Tantalus Vineyards (http://www.tantalus.ca)

  Kelowna, British Columbia

Located in Southeast Kelowna, Tantalus Vineyards has been producing internationally recognized wines from our 75-acre estate vineyard in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley since 2005. Farming one of BC's oldest, continuously producing vineyards (the property has been growing grapes since 1927), we have a strong commitment to land stewardship and sustainability. Our state-of-the-art, LEED-certified winery is the first and only of its kind in BC and most recently we underwent the rigorous Sustainable Winegrowing BC Certification for both our vineyard and winery. Our focus is on a small, terroir-driven line of wines, crafted primarily from estate grown Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with vines dating back to 1978. Our portfolio of wines is growing however, and we look forward to some exciting new additions in the coming vintages.

We are currently seeking an ASSISTANT WINEMAKER to join our team. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in all aspects of winemaking and viticulture. This role includes a wide range of day-to-day cellar and vineyard duties that require a variety of skills.  Tasks will include all aspects of winemaking from fruit receival and fermentation management through to bottling. The role also includes pruning and vine management tasks at certain times of the year. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about regenerative agricultural practices from our highly experienced vineyard team.

The successful candidate will have the ability to execute the day-to-day cellar work with minimal supervision, make decisions, take the lead, and supervise staff where necessary.

All those who have held this position at Tantalus have gone onto successful chief winemaking careers, with our full support. We hope to find our next talented team member to nurture similarly.

Job Requirements:

Responsible for the day-to-day care of all winemaking activities including harvest grape receival and crush pad operations

Responsible for training and oversight of cellar employees
