Summerhill Pyramid Winery is seeking a motivated, dynamic person to fill the position of Cellar Master. This position helps oversee day-to-day winery operations with an emphasis on wine quality, work planning, safety, sanitation, data management, and facility/equipment maintenance. Additional responsibilities include training and oversight of cellar and employees and up-keep of various winemaking records, reporting forms and spreadsheets.
Essential responsibilities include:
•Track all lots for winemaking recommendations, specialized considerations for wine work and analyses requests. Up-hold and refine winemaking, cellar, sanitation and safety procedures.
•Write work orders and oversee all harvest, bottling, cellar, and production activities. Daily, weekly and yearly work planning and ensures work is completed at a high level of quality and in a timely, organized and efficient manner.
•Coordinate winery safety program and compile maintenance work lists based off frequent winery inspections. Inventory and quality control of all bottling supplies. Able to keep proprietary process and internal information confidential.
•Data management including maintenance of winemaking records and spreadsheets and ISO 65 reporting, Confined space entry log, Sanitation logs, Organic protocols for product handling and dry goods and barrel inventories.
Job Qualifications, including educational and physical requirements:
•Bachelor of Science Degree (Enology degree preferred) with at least 4 years of experience including lab, cellar and management experience.
•Passion for wine and commitment to excellence and high standards. Able to motivate and work in a team environment.
•Ability to make educated, timely and sound winemaking decisions. Detail oriented, takes initiative and comfortable delegating tasks.
•Very strong organizing, planning, supervising, and problem solving skills. Able to multitask and manage changing priorities while maintaining a positive attitude.
•Excellent (English) verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer background with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
•Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a car.
•Excellent forklift skills.
•Ability to lift and carry a 9.0 liter case of wine, to climb ladders and to be on your feet for extended periods of time in an outdoor work environment.
•Willingness to work long hours, including weekends, assist with other projects as required and represent the winery in the market and at tours and events
•Ability to lift and carry 60 lbs, climb ladders and stand for long periods of time in an outdoor work environment.
