Wine Growers British Columbia is currently looking for an experienced individual to join our team as Communications Director to be responsible for developing and delivering trade, media, stakeholder and member communications and providing communication direction for all marketing, media and advocacy program initiatives. This is a contract maternity leave position starting April 1, 2023 and based in Kelowna, British Columbia. The Communications    Director will report to the CEO & President working cross functionally with the marketing and communications teams.

Relates to:Controller, Marketing Director, Marketing Manager, Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Digital Specialist, WGBC Marketing Committee, Task Groups and contractors

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

·         Responsible for the development and implementation of the annual stakeholder communications plan including strategies and tactics for: stakeholders (members and non-members), media and trade (regional, national, and international), industry and consumers.

·         Manage assigned project budgets, revenues, contracts and timelines.

·         Maintain brand continuity throughout all communications initiatives, materials and platforms.

·         Be an arbiter of best practices in grammar, messaging and style in writing and editing all communications material in line with the WGBC brand guidelines, in cooperation with the Communications Manager.

·         Provide communications and media support for marketing and advocacy initiatives as required.

·         Contribute strategic direction and support on member relations and industry communications and evens, in cooperation with the Communications Manager.

·         Oversee content creation and communications channels in cooperation with the Marketing Director.

·         Manage content development and accuracy of all WGBC media assets and educational tools and resources including, the Wines of BC Ambassador Program, Media Kit, maps, infographics and WineBC.com.

·         Coordinate media and trade familiarization tours, seminars and events when appropriate.

·         Respond to media enquiries in a timely and efficient manner.

·         Represent WGBC at forums and events as required.

·         Create final reports that evaluate the impact of each communications/media event/program including an overview, analytics and achievements to annual communications objectives.

·         Contribute to the annual strategic planning process and develop, in conjunction with senior management, Marketing Committee and Board of Directors, the annual strategic plan in line with long-term objective and strategic priorities

Additional duties when required.

Skills and Qualifications:

•              5-8 years’ experience in a communications leadership role.

•              Post-secondary degree in Communications or related field.

•              Proven experience in writing communications plans, media releases, articles and reports.

•              Proven experience in implementing and executing an annual communications plan.

•              Proven experience working with partners and coordinating meetings and events.

•              Experience in research and data.

•              Strong writing, editing and communication skills.

•              Experience with online platforms such as Survey Monkey, ZOOM, Canva, Adobe, Sales Force and Marketing Cloud programs.

•              Good to excellent understanding of office procedures and systems including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams).

•              Highly organized and efficient, able to adapt to change and manage multiple priority tasks with tight deadlines and limited supervision.

•              People-oriented and a team leader with a professional demeanor.

•              Ability to relate to all levels of government and industry.

•              1-2 years of wine industry-related communications experience.

Travel at the expense of Wine Growers British Columbia may be required from time to time.
