Wine Growers British Columbia (formally British Columbia Wine Institute) is currently looking for a talented individual to join our team as Communications Manager to be responsible for developing, writing and distributing WGBC stakeholder and member communications and providing communication support for all marketing, media and advocacy program initiatives. This is a full-time salary position starting immediately and based in Kelowna, British Columbia. The Communications Manager will report to the Communications Director working cross functionally with the marketing and communications teams. In compliance with the government’s continued efforts to minimize the risk and spread of the COVID-19 virus, the successful candidate may be required to work from home.

Duties and Essential Job Functions:

1. Strategic Industry Communications Planning

Responsible for the development and implementation of the stakeholder communications plan.

• Manage assigned project budgets, revenues, workback schedules and timelines.

 

2. Writing & Editing

• Be an arbiter of best practices in grammar, messaging and style in writing and editing all communications material in line with the WGBC brand guidelines.

• Maintain brand continuity throughout all communications.

• Write and distribute fact sheets,backgrounders, media releases, advisories, and industry articles in line with the media and communications strategic plan.

• Manage and update communications resource tools including, Media Kit, Wines of British Columbia Wine Ambassador Programs and Member Benefits package as required.

• Develop and distribute WGBC communications such as industry updates, infographics, member e- newsletters, quarterly and annual reports.

 

3. Member Relations

• Identify and create engagement plans for member wineries and potential new member wineries.

• Represent WGBC at industry stakeholder forums and events.

• Respond to industry and member enquiries in a timely and efficient manner.

 

4. Member Meetings & Governance

• Coordinate and execute member meetings and events such as AGMs, Insight Conference, etc.

• Assist President/CEO & Controller with:

• keeping track of board member terms and important filing deadlines for the organization’s incorporation and not-for-profit status

• familiarity with the bylaws and constitution of the organization

• insuring that policy decisions made at board meetings are added to the policy manual

 

5. Research & Data

• Work with industry partners to ensure up to date statistics, facts, data forthe Wines of British Columbia and stakeholders.

 

Skills and Qualifications: 

• 3-5 years’ experience in a communications role.

• Post-secondary degree in Communications or related field.

• Proven experience in writing communications plans, media releases, articles and reports.

• Proven experience in implementing and executing an annual communications plan.

• Proven experience working with partners and coordinating meetings.

• Experience in research and data.

• Strong writing, editing and communication skills.

• Experience with online platforms such as Survey Monkey, ZOOM, Flickr & SmugMug.

• Experience with Adobe, Sales Force and Marketing Cloud programs an asset.

• Good to excellent understanding of office procedures and systems including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams).

• Highly organized and efficient, able to adapt to change and manage multiple priority tasks with tight deadlines and limited supervision.

• People-oriented and a team contributor with a professional demeanor.

• Ability to relate to all levels of government and industry.

• 1-2 years of wine industry-related communications experience.

Travel at the expense of Wine Growers British Columbia may be required from time to time when safe and in compliance with the government’s continued efforts to minimize the risk and spread of the COVID-     19 virus.
