We are seeking extraordinary, enthusiastic Seasonal Harvest Teammates to join our Kelowna team. Our Winery is located in the heart of Kelowna between downtown and Knox Mountain, Calona Winery has the distinction of being British Columbia's original winery. As a pioneer in the BC wine industry, Calona leads the way to higher levels of craftsmanship and professionalism. Calona's wines are award-winning, rivaling the world's most established names to prove the Okanagan Valley is at the international forefront of fine wine production.
Reporting into the Department Supervisors, we are recruiting for harvest teammates to provide support to the Cellar Teammates during harvest.
We are looking for teammates with:
· High School Diploma or equivalent, combined with experience in all aspects of crush work—is desirable; however, will train!
· Ability to multi-task, work independently and with a team, in a fast-paced environment with emphasis on quality, accuracy and timeliness
· Excellent safety, work performance and attendance record
· Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, work effectively in team/crew environment, adherence to all safety regulations, operating procedures and company policies
· Ability to prioritize and able to adapt to changing priorities
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and willingness to work flexible hours when needed
· Actively support and promote a culture focused on Health and Safety, environmental enhancement as well adhere to HACCP requirements and the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
· Must be willing to work all shifts (day, afternoon, or night shifts) and work under minimal supervision. Some work may occur in cold, damp conditions, and sometimes at heights; capable of performing all duties with a sense of urgency and with a positive, team-oriented approach
· Forklift experience and/or forklift certification is desirable; will train suitable candidates
· Understanding current COVID 19 Protocol as well compliance with work safe practices
· Foreign workers must have appropriate VISA
This teammate will be accountable for:
· Operating a forklift loading and unloading trucks with grape bins (empty and full), washing and re-stacking bins
· Working outside(cold, damp environment) in the grape processing area, processing grapes (includes dumping grapes into hoppers, cleaning & re-stacking bins, preparing and making additions to the grapes, presses, tanks)
· Moving pumps and hoses into place to pump product, transferring wine volumes throughout Cellars
· Cleaning & sanitizing equipment (presses, pumps, bins, de-stemmer/crusher, tanks, tubs), as well must be comfortable entering tanks for cleaning/skin removal
· Following work as assigned on work tickets
· Performing other tasks as assigned
· Maintains a safe work environment; participates in a variety of committee meetings as a representative of the department
This is a Unionized role and belongs to the SEIU Local 2 Branch Local 300 Union.
During harvest you have the potential to earn $20.69 to $21.69 per hour working 12 hour shifts. In addition, overtime is paid at double time!!!
Starting Hourly Rate: $17.69 if not working harvest and/or12 hour shifts.
