General profile:

The Sugar-Hill Vineyard in Lac-Brome is located at the heart of the Eastern Townships in the Province of Québec. The 92 acres estate is established directly on the Wine Route, acclaimed and renowned for its numerous vineyards. Since 2006, over the years, 30,000 vines, spread over 13 parcels and 13 grape varieties, have been planted on a hilly ground.

We are just starting to market and are looking for a motivated candidate to take over and build with us this wonderful project with high level ambitions. We are excited to find and welcome the new person who can bring us there.

Main responsibilities:

 

  • Supervise and intervene in the wine design and winemaking, selection, wine breeding, preservation, aging, filtration and bottling.
  • Collaborate in the establishment and cultivation of the vineyard by choosing the grape varieties to obtain a quality grape.
  • Evaluate the maturity criteria and decide on the appropriate timing of the harvest according to the expected maturity levels.
  • Evaluate the criteria of quality of raw material received in terms of composition and health status and according to the expected end product.
  • Participate actively in sites implementation, choice of processes and technological equipment.
  • Master all unit operations presiding over the grape’s transformation.
  • On the basis of the final expected product, select, by evaluating their subsequent consequences, the unitary operations required for winemaking, assembling, processing, aging, packaging and preservation.
  • Ensure follow-up of all the compliances with the certified Vin du Québec specifications and the Vin de Glace du Québec and Vin du Québec designation.
  • Taste wines throughout the maturation process in collaboration with the team, in order to reach the expected and fixed objectives.
  • Perform analytical checks of the product (chemical, physical, microbiological and sensory) at each stage of production until consumption.
  • Monitor the consistency of interventions and processes, record data and maintain traceability files for internal and external audits, as well as monthly and annual inventory reports.
  • Interpret the analytical results according to the stage of development and destination of the product and ensure its traceability.
  • Guarantee sanitary and consumption safety of the product, as well as security in the workplace.
  • Make marketing recommendations regarding the designation and presentation of the product when it is marketed.
  • Promote the wines of the vineyard in certain fairs and events and organize the visits and tastings to the vineyard for the customers.
  • Support and supervise all vineyard work in the field, including pruning and trellising vines.
  • Work in collaboration with the agronomist to ensure the health of the vines.
  • Manage staff working at the vineyard and assign tasks.
  • Manage the installation of protective nets against predators, as well as winter covers.

 

Qualifications required and work conditions:

Education: Recognized Bachelor of Oenology

Related experience: 7 to 10 years.

Language required, spoken and written: French and English; Spanish: asset.

Type of employment: Full time, permanent work.

Housing: Possibility of staying on site.

Salary: To be determined according to experience.
