  We are seeking an extraordinary, enthusiastic Cellar Assistant to join our Gray Monk Winery team.  Perched above Okanagan Lake with stunning panoramic views of mountains, vineyards and the lake, Gray Monk Estate Winery offers guests a true taste, or sip, of the Okanagan lifestyle. With a bustling wine boutique, a full-service banquet facility and a world-class restaurant, the winery is equipped to host guests for all occasions. Gray Monk Estate is comprised of 75 acres of lush vineyards overlooking Okanagan Lake, in addition to premium grapes sourced throughout the Okanagan Valley, to produce some of the world's finest wines.

 

Reporting into the Cellar Master, the Cellar Assistant will assume the role of lead hand, for any tasks associated with the processing of fruit, still winemaking processing, and sparkling wine disgorging operations, ensuring all activities are completed in a safe and efficient manner.

We are looking for a teammate with:

  • Winery Cellar Assistant Certificate with an understanding of wine chemistry; good knowledge of wines and production; combined with a minimum three harvests/two years’ production cellar experience

  • WSET Level 2 and First Aid–bonus points

  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate a forklift is a bonus

  • Experience in supervising and motivating team members

  • Commitment to excellence and high standards; excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skill and the ability to prioritize and manage workflow.

  • Good judgment/ability to make timely and sound decisions.

  • Ability to understand and enforce safety requirements and caution

  • A “Can Do” attitude and enjoy working under pressure

The teammate will be accountable for:

  •  Assuming the role of lead operator for all tasks associated with cellar work including; however, not limited to:  crush operations, wine blending, filtration, fermentation, cap management, barrel work, sanitization, etc.
  • Differentiating between acceptable and unacceptable product as well take appropriate action to quarantine, communicate, and rectify any nonconforming products
  • Identifying, reporting and providing potential solutions to problems
  • Participating in safety activities, continuous improvement, and small-team problem solving
  • Respectfully operate cellar equipment to maintain a safe & efficient operation

Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
