Cellar Worker

Our winemaking team has an opening for a full time Cellar Worker. This is a hands-on Cellar position involved in all aspects of winemaking. During harvest this position concentrates on the receival, destemming and pressing of grapes. Through the rest of the year this position will be involved in wine transfers, pump overs, barrel work, filtration and forklift operations. This position will also be involved in laboratory work and data management.
Position Summary:
The Cellar Worker works alongside the Winemaker in all aspects of cellar operations. This position supports all winemaking activities from the harvest of grapes through until bottling with a strong emphasis on cellar hygiene and laboratory analysis. This role is perfectly suited for a self-starting individual who takes pride in the success of the whole operation
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
· Carry out all cellar tasks including barrel work, racking, topping, transfers, filtration, etc.
· Perform all laboratory analysis as needed (pH, TA, MLF, SO2, microbial analysis etc.)
· Maintain records of cellar operations and lab analyses in Vintrace
· Responsible for cellar and equipment sanitation throughout production facility
· Keep a clean, tidy and safe work environment, and report any issues to the Winemaker or Cellar Master
· Participate in tasting and blending trials
· Forklift and tractor operations
· General cellar and equipment maintenance
· Evaluate/monitor wines on a regular basis and report to the Winemaker
· Preparation for harvest by ensuring that all equipment is prepared and ready for grape intake
· All aspects of grape reception and processing
· Training and supervising of seasonal harvest staff with emphasis on safety, efficiency and quality of work
· As required, assist in all aspects of canopy management, events and general business operations
Qualifications & Requirements:
· Must be able to lift or carry up to 45 pounds, frequently
· Must be able to spend up to 8 hours on your feet with longer shifts during harvest
· Must have the ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking, team environment
· Must possess excellent communication skills (Be comfortable talking to groups of people)
· Must have your Serving It Right Certification
· Be able to work weekends, evenings, holidays and special events
· University degree in microbiology or chemistry
· WSET training an asset
· Experience with Vintrace software an asset
