Ex Nihilo Finance Manager
Ex Nihilo Vineyards Okanagan Valley is an established north Okanagan winery. The winery has been in operation since 2006, it now has a 20-acre onsite vineyard, related operations and produces approximately 12,000 cases annually.
Ex Nihilo is looking for a Finance Manager to help manage the current operation and be part of the future planned growth and development of related companies. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the wine industry, the provincial tax structure, and the British Columbia Liquor Control Board regulatory policies and procedures.
Job brief
We are looking for a Finance Manager to oversee full cycle accounting and finance activities for Ex Nihilo and related private companies.
The Finance Manager is primarily responsible for ensuring Company’s financial data is reliable and available in a timely manner; this includes operational reporting on sales channel profitability, product margin analysis and budgeting. The Finance Manager supports the Company in achieving its goals by playing a significant support role in strategy development and business decision support.
Responsibilities
- Provide financial reports and interpret financial information to managerial staff while recommending further courses of action as needed to drive towards fiscal goals.
- Oversee operations of the finance department through the development of objectives, goal setting and implementation of appropriate processes.
- Maintain the financial health of the organization though by overseeing product margins, labour spend, working capital and cash flow.
- Analyze costs, pricing, variable contributions, sales results and the company’s actual performance compared to the business plans.
- Develop trends and projections for the winery finances.
- Continuously review spending to identify all cost-reduction opportunities.
- Manage the preparation of the company’s budget.
- Support department managers in developing operational plans which support the corporate strategy and fiscal goals.
- Advise on investment activities and provide strategies that the company should take to improve margins and corporate sustainability.
Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience in full cycle accounting (cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, financial reporting etc.)
- Experience reporting under the Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises
- Experience with accounting software, Sage 50C preferred
- Intermediate MS Office skills, notably Excel.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Familiar with the Okanagan Wine Industry, provincial licensing and taxation.
- Ability to act as a business leader, providing guidance to operational employees on related financial processes are being used
- Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations
- BS/MA degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
- Qualified CPA will be considered a plus
