Vineyard Manager – 50th Parallel Estate Winery
Summary:
Responsible for the daily supervision and implementation of viticultural best practices for multiple vineyards of 50th Parallel Estate Winery including vineyard infrastructure development and planning, developing budgets, staffing and hiring, and determining the most effective use of personnel and equipment to meet the estate quality standards.
Duties:
• Supervises and directs vineyard personnel,
• Works daily in the vineyard with vineyard personnel,
• Direct and schedule overall daily activities of personnel and equipment including irrigation, fertilization, tractor activities, spraying and harvesting,
• Communicate work priorities to vineyard personnel,
• Manage and visit 50th Parallel Estate vineyards routinely to oversee progress and quality of work performed by vineyard personnel,
• Work with and communicate to the winemaker and proprietors to ensure quality and production deliverables are met,
• Liase with Human Resources to assist in hiring,
• Create spray and irrigation programs,
• Manage pricing and delivery of materials for: spray programs, fertilizers, stake & wire, and equipment,
• Work closely with vendors and suppliers, and ensure compliance and regulatory and government insurance programs are kept up and adhered to,
• Work closely with wine-maker to schedule grape deliveries and harvest schedules are met to for the winery during harvest,
Skills:
• Someone who is passionate about vineyard management, wine, and believes that great wines are made in the vineyard,
• Excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate with different personalities,
• Ability to work in a fast paced, ever changing, and sometimes pressure filled environment,
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office,
Qualifications:
• 5-10 yrs experience – Vineyard Management
• Degree in Viticulture and/or Ag Business preferred
• Bilingual – Spanish a plus
