O'Rourke's Family Vineyards is growing its team and has an exciting opportunity opening as our company Viticulturist. Located in Lake Country B.C. we have three vineyards totaling 105 acres planted to a combination of aromatic white varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with the ambition to produce British Columbia's finest wines. This position is perfect for someone who is organized, quality and detail oriented, self-motivated, wishing to continue their professional growth in the industry and who enjoys being in a hands on team environment.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Senior Winemaker, you will be responsible for all vineyard operational and technical requirements to ensure the highest standards of production are achieved and upheld at all times. The position will be diverse, challenging, and rewarding involving the following, but not limited to:

  • A passion for developing vineyards to achieve their full potential by applying a scientific approach to the growing of healthy, balanced vines delivering optimum quality fruit and yield
  • Manage and implement irrigation programs
  • Manage and implement annual pest and disease programs
  • Manage and oversee all vineyard technical analysis and counts such as porometer readings, yield estimates and phenological monitoring
  • Organize all grape harvest requirements, inclusive of the daily communication with winemakers
  • Preventative maintenance programs for repairs to plant, equipment and infrastructure
  • Working closely with IT to innovate and automate vineyard activities such as soil monitoring, weather station data collection and irrigation technology improvement
  • Train, mentor and supervise vineyard employees (including our international team)
  • Undertake research projects to achieve the continual improvement of our vineyard

The successful candidate will have:

  • A passion of viticulture and winemaking
  • A minimum of 5 years' viticulture experience with an associated degree in the field
  • Excelllent knowledge of vineyard equipment and machinery
  • Experience to manage and mentor a small team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A commitment to safety and safe work practices
  • Outstanding time management with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Can work effectively in a team environnment or independently 
  • Flexible and able to extend or be available for out of hours work
