Cellar Hand (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

We are Backyard Vineyards, and we have been producing award-winning wines from 100% BC grown grapes since 2009. We are currently in significant growth and as such are looking to add to our team in the role of Cellar Assistant. Based at the winery in Langley, and reporting directly to the Winemaker, the Cellar Hand will offer support and assistance in the entire winemaking process, performing a wide range of tasks – from processing fruit, through fermentation, to finishing and bottling the wine, as well as vineyard work. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Harvest Processing: grape reception, destemming, crushing, pressing

• Fermentation Management: inoculations, nutrient additions, sampling, pump overs, punch downs, and digging tanks out

• Cellar Work: barrel filling, racking, blending, additions, filtration

• Cellar Sanitation: tank and barrel cleaning, general cleaning of facility and winery equipment

• Bottling: calibrating, adjusting, maintaining, sanitizing and operating the bottling line 

•  Vineyard Work: tractor operating, pruning, tying, tucking, leafing and various manual labour tasks

•  Inventory management: Fulfilling retail orders, stock movements, managing inventory counts

Qualifications:

• Experience working in beverage production, with knowledge of wine/cellar operations is oreffered

• Strong commitment to quality, with attention to detail.

• Willing to take initiative, self-motivated and dependable

•  Good problem-solving skills

• Knowledge of safe cellar practices, including safe handling of chemicals.

• Teamwork and customer service skills.

• Ability to work shift work, including late nights and weekends

•  Ability to lift 55 lbs

Certifications:

• Driver’s license; must be able to arrange your own transportation to and from work

• Fork lift operator

•  WHMIS training provided
