Position Summary:
Unsworth Vineyards is seeking a Vineyard Manager to join our wine production team. Unsworth Vineyards is a family-owned winery that prides itself on its positive work environment, as well as, of course, producing beautiful expressions of world class, premium cool climate wines with a focus on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris. The Vineyard Manager position offers the unique opportunity to be a key part of a growing company with opportunities to learn from expert colleagues/consultants all within a developing wine region that you’ll be helping to shape.
Responsibilities and duties:
- Responsible for planning and ensuring the timely execution of all year-round operations of our existing vineyards (~20 acres), newly and soon-to-be planted vineyards (~45 acres).
- Works closely with winemaker and management team on annual goals
- Works closely with the management team on future and upcoming plantings and is responsible for much of the execution of those plantings and vineyard development.
- Manages a small but growing team of vineyard hands and seasonal workers
Desired qualifications and qualities:
- Has a passion for cool climate wine but loves viticulture more than winemaking/ oenology
- BSc. or equivalent college or experience in viticulture
- Minimum 3 years of experience on viticultural side of the wine business
- Experience/Understanding of cool climate viticulture
- Valid driver’s license; required to travel to various sites to satisfy daily job requirements. Company vehicle provided
- Proficiency with Excel, MS Word, and the ability to learn software
- Required to work long hours during peak seasons
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, work in outside weather, walk on uneven terrain
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with a self-starter attitude
- Takes good notes
- Looks ahead when planning
- Gives and receives feedback
- Brings the attitude that no one is above any job
- Must be fluent in English
- Must be legally allowed to work in Canada
- Management experience would be an asset
- Mechanical experience would be an asset
- Fluency or knowledge of Spanish and/or French would be an asset
