Monte Creek Ranch Winery is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, permanent role as Cellar Technician. Monte Creek is a 300 ton winery located in the South Thompson valley, 20 minutes east of Kamloops, British Columbia. Monte Creek has 75 acres planted in South Thompson, with an additional 30 acres in the Similkameen valley, and placed among the top 25 wineries in Canada in the Wine Align 2019 National Wine Awards.
This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a rapidly growing winery and work with a dynamic and passionate team. This position reports to the Winemaker and Assistant Winemaker, and will provide opportunity to expand winemaking skills and also play a leadership role during harvest.
Duties of this position will include but not be limited to:
· Performing cellar activities such as racking, blending, filtration, barrel work, and bottling.
· Take part in all harvest activities, including fruit receipt, sorting, destemming, pressing, and fermentation.
· Maintain the cellar to the highest degree of cleanliness and sanitation at all times.
· Assist with the cellar maintenance program. This includes maintaining all equipment associated with wine production and utilizing and continually updating a maintenance log.
· Maintain an inventory of cellar supplies and bottling components.
· Supervise harvest staff.
· Assist with the cellar health and safety program. This includes participating in monthly health and safety meetings, utilizing and implementing GAP analysis, and maintaining first aid supply inventory.
· Assist with achieving winery sustainability goals.
Requirements and Qualifications
· Minimum class 5 driver’s license and transportation to and from work.
· Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary, particularly during harvest.
· Able to lift 50 pounds, work in inclement weather, at heights, within confined spaces, and work on their feet for long periods of time in physically demanding conditions.
· Able to follow Standard Operating Procedures and provide suggestions for improvement when possible.
· Preference to candidates with forklift proficiency.
· Working proficiency in English. Spanish language skills will be considered an asset.
· Strong preference to candidates with a B. Sc. in Enology or a related field.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
· Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise legally able to work long term within Canada. Applicants without this status will not be considered as an LMIA will not be undertaken.
