POSITION SUMMARY
This vacancy is a position in a large, fast paced laboratory. Processing results timely and accurately are critical to the just-in-time production environment and require exceptional multi-tasking skills and the ability to work-well under pressure.
Some shifts will require working by yourself.
Range of test and equipment includes basic wet chemistry techniques (titrations, pipetting, distillations) to sophisticated and automated equipment (FTIR, AA, enzymatic analyzers).
Some judgment is applied to interpreting test results against limits and in performing inspections.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Set up and conduct chemical and microbiological analysis of fermenting, bulk and finished wines. Testing includes titrations, pH, distillations, NIR, AA, enzymatic, turbidity, spectrophotometry, and conductivity.
- Operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment
- Accurate preparation of solution, and reagents
- Accurately record results, and apply to specifications and report deviations
- Conduct some component (packaging) inspections
- Participate in problem solving and improvement projects
- Clean and maintain the laboratory to ensure a safe work environment
- Maintain and order consumables in a timely and cost-effective manner
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technologist/ Technician or related disciplines with detailed knowledge of common laboratory practices and procedures.
- Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in a high volume routine laboratory testing environment.
- Exposure to Production environment (preferably Food and Beverage)
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Working experience of ISO, HACCP and any of the Continuous improvement process is preferred (Lean Six Sigma, 20 Keys)
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skill to support our continuous improvement initiatives.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / OTHER
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 55 lbs.
- Flexibility to work various shifts.
