Niagara College Teaching Winery is a unique estate winery where our focus is on quality education, where we prepare students for work in the "real" world, as well as producing high-quality VQA wines. Our graduates go on to an exciting career in the wine industry in winery operations, viticulture, sales/marketing and wine business management.  Our 20-acre estate vineyard is located on the St. David’s Bench, and we produce wines from estate grown fruit as well as select premium vineyards within the Niagara Peninsula.

We are seeking a motivated Cellar Hand to join our team.  This is a dynamic and multifaceted commercial production environment that doubles as a classroom and research facility and attention to detail, critical thinking, maturity and an ability to follow instructions precisely and to work independently is desirable.

Job Requirements:

-       Work in partnership with our winemaker to ensure wine quality is maintained at all stages of the production process.

-       Fruit sampling, receival, processing, and harvest sanitation.

-       Proficiency in cellar tasks; tank cleaning, punch downs and pump overs, racking, transfers, blending, fining, filtering and bottling, inoculations, fermentation management and additions.

-       Barrel management, including filling, emptying, topping and cleaning.

-       Cider production operations such as fermentation, filtration, kegging, carbonation, and canning

-       Assisting and supporting students with their winemaking projects

-       Must have a cooperative attitude and be flexible to changes and work hours.

-       Participation in winery events and customer facing activities.

 

The Successful Candidate will have:

-       Post-secondary education, diploma or degree in winemaking/viticulture, or related field

-       Previous winemaking or cellar management experience

-       Strong communication skills and attention to detail

-       Willingness to work in all types of weather.

-       Ability to do physical labor and lift 25 KG.

-       Forklift/ Tow motor certification or willingness to certify.

-       Valid driver’s license

-       Eligibility to work in Canada

-       Smart Serve

 

The position is year-round and the salary for the candidate will reflect experience.
