This is a fulltime seasonal position from October 1 through the end of Icewine crush in January-February, with potential for long term employment. We are looking for an individual who is motivated and passionate about the wine industry to work with the winemaker and assistant winemaker, processing grapes and fermenting wine. Applicants must be able to work flexible hours and up to six days a week during peak season. Winemaking education and/or experience is an asset.
Strewn has been producing VQA wines for more than 20 years, including six popular wines sold at the LCBO and/or grocery, plus award-winning Premium and Terroir wines only available at the winery. The reds are Bordeaux-inspired while white wines range in style from fresh & aromatic, to round and smooth. Strewn’s winemaking team is small but passionate and is looking for a detail-oriented, high-energy individual to help during the busiest and most exciting time of the year.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with destemming, crushing, and pressing, including cleaning and sanitizing crush pad equipment and washing bins
Assist with inoculations, nutrient additions to ferments, sampling, red wine pump overs and punch downs, and monitoring sugars
Bottling work prior to and post harvest
Barrel work, racking, transfers and additions
Tank & barrel cleaning, and general cleaning of facility and winery equipment
Follow all safety procedures as directed by standard operating procedures, health and safety requirements, and maintain an organized workplace
Safe Operation of Cellar Forklift and Other Winery Equipment (Training Provided)
Job Requirements:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required; winemaking education and/or experience is an asset
Strong commitment to quality, attention to details and problem-solving ability
Effective verbal and written communication
Ability to lift 40 lbs/18.5 kg
Willing to work long hours and shift work if necessary
