Alongside the Owner and the V.P. Winemaking & Operations, you will be responsible for utilizing a scientific and forward-thinking approach to develop/implement policies and procedures, advise/direct on technical and operational viticulture matters in our Niagara-on-the-Lake vineyards (110 hectares). You would be responsible for all vineyard tasks in order to produce high quality grapes and to maintain high levels of vine health. This is of course, a full-time permanent position.
Duties
- Apply precision viticulture to optimize vineyard performance, this would include all vineyard tasks: winter pruning, agri-chemical application, pest and disease control, soil management, yield management, frost control, vine nutrition, canopy management
- Management and training of 31 seasonal vineyard workers
- Safe and effective operation and maintenance of vineyard equipment
- Management of our vineyard nursery and landscaping
- Along with the V.P. Winemaking & Operations, produce fruit maturity/condition and crop estimate-harvest management reports (sparkling, table wine and Icewine harvests);
- Along with the V.P. Winemaking & Operations, ensure the management of the agronomical research blocks
- On occasion attend R&D presentations
Skills
- A Master’s degree in agronomy with a specialization in Viticulture-Enology;
- 3 to 5 years vineyard management and technical experience
- Proven ability to successfully lead and coach a team towards a shared vision
- Proven experience to using scientific approaches to growing high quality fruit with a deep interest and understanding of the science of growing healthy balanced vines and qualit y fruit.
Depending on experience, the salary range would be $70,000 - $90,000
