We are seeking a Winemaker, Trius Sparkling VQA to join our Winemaking Team.

Trius Winery welcomes diverse, top quality harvest interns from around the world, each season. The selected harvest team will work at two different production facilities (Niagara on the Lake and Beamsville Bench sub appellation) which process approximately 3000 tonnes combined.

As the Trius Sparkling VQA Winemaker, you will be responsible for assisting in winemaking process from harvest through bottling, ensuring compliance to specifications, maintaining and maximizing quality and efficiencies. The incumbent requires a good understanding of vineyard and winemaking operations, along with proficiency in compliance and record keeping. In addition, you will be responsible for promoting wine culture by defining the vision and strategy for the Andrew Peller Ltd sparkling wine program. This role represents the Trius Sparkling Brand in internal and external events as they relate to Marketing/Sales, Public Relations initiatives, Corporate Operations Management Team and industry activities.


We are looking for a teammate with:

  • Degree in Science, B.Sc - Oenology and Viticulture or Food Science
  • Experience in cellar operations, food manufacturing preferred
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, HACCP, and GMP's an asset
  • General wine and fermentation knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail; Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Supervisory experience and a commitment to excellence and best in class standards.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage workflow, use good judgment to make timely and sound decisions.

This teammate's accountabilities will include:

  • Manage and elevate the APL sparkling wine program from vineyard to bottle.
  • Provide leadership to cellar personnel to promote and protect wine quality.
  • Issue and assign work orders for all daily activities, manage harvest interns.
  • Communicate with Trius Winemaker on the status of the respective ferments, movements, and cellar activities/processes.
  • Actively participate in tastings of juices, ferments and finished wines (sparkling, still and icewine)
  • Management of operations using WICO, oracle and excel to ensure system accuracy.
  • Creation of work orders and timely execution of completed work orders .
  • Management of information pertaining to VQA, ensuring wines are submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Interpretation of lab results and related work planning.
  • Prepare wines in accordance to the bottling schedule.
  • Participates on Industry committees as required.
  • Proficient winemaking sensory skills and ability to rectify any nonconforming products.
  • Responsible for maintaining clean and sanitary environment of the cellars according to GMP guidelines.
  • Follows safe work process' and report all deviations as per APL guidelines.
  • Assist in hiring and development of all seasonal staff.
  • Verification of Bills of Lading, shipping and receiving of wine and barrels between winery locations.
  • SOP creation, management and implementation Ensures a safe and healthy work environment through the effective operation of the Health and Safety program and joint H&S committee.
  • Assures the safety of employees through compliance with EH&S regulations and maintains an attitude that all incidents are preventable.
