Brand Winemaker - Jackson-Triggs (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

Jackson-Triggs estate Niagara was opened in 2001 with a vision to have a state-of-the-art facility that would facilitate the production of ultra-premium VQA wines. Jackson-Triggs estate is a terroir driven facility that sources the majority of is fruit from its own well renowned and celebrated vineyards. These vineyards allow us to focus on our award-winning brands such as Entourage, Grand Reserve and Le Clos Jordanne.

 

Position Summary

The Winemaker will report to the Director of Winemaking and will be directly responsible for the day-to-day winemaking and maintenance of wine quality, as well as directing and training the Assistant Winemaker. Key areas of responsibility include support and facilitation between various production teams (including lab, viticulture, and cellar), ensuring priorities and protocols are achieved, cost effectiveness, accuracy, and safety to all performance standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

Winemaking:

  • Combine science, practical experience and creativity to produce wines that meet consumer needs.
  • Support the determination of wine style and Manage all wine production ensuring wine quality expectations are met.
  • Ensure compliance to complex legal requirements for content and packaging.
  • Winery data-based management (JDE)
  • Oversight and interaction with Viticulture team
  • Sparkling winemaking experience essential.

 

VQA:

  • Oversee production process of winemaking including crush, fermentation, aging, blending and bottling.
  • Manage all wine production ensuring wine quality expectations are met for VQA wines
  • Ensure all packaged products as noted above are provided to the bottling tanks in such a condition to reduce risk of FG AD as much as reasonably possible.
  • Harvest decisions to meet VQA requirements
  • Provide products to the bottling schedule as needed.

 

Manage Facility:

  • Ensure productivity and smooth operations of cellars by overseeing the execution of work orders for wine production. 
  • Answer any questions, resolve any concerns related to winemaking in the cellars
  • Develop budgets and deliver to agreed financial commitments.
  • Support COGS savings initiatives related to winemaking and associated processes, whilst maintaining or improving on product quality.
  • Support the development of the supply /demand forecasts (S&OP). Especially related to accurate blend codes for all estates brands in the wine system as “make” numbers are provided. As well as creating and providing guidance on recipes / naming conventions and accuracy of wine system blend codes for all products.
  • Responsible for all health & safety related to the facility, including training and communication.
  • Develop strategies and priorities to meet goals.
  • Hire, train, develop and schedule team
  • Manage any vendor contracts or maintenance for facilities

 

Public Relations:

  • Be the "face" of and serve as the technical spokesperson for the Winery Brand in the market.      
  • Under the guidance of PR, conduct interviews with the press.                                      
  • Deliver brand presentations to distributor groups with a charismatic and professional approach.          
  • Attend events as required.  
  • People Management :
  • Lead teams of salaried and hourly positions.   Oversee cellar staff including hiring, performance management, training, development.
  • Oversee health & safety in the cellars.
  • Continue the company’s policies on Diversity, Inclusion, & Belonging

 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and training.
  • Support the NPD process to ensure successful launch of new products.
  • Adhere to all OH&S, GMP, HACCP and ISO initiatives for the site.

Qualifications

 

Education

  • University Degree in Food Sciences, Oenology, or Viticulture
  • Degree in Oenology(Preferred)

 

Experience

  • 6-8 Years of Experience in Winemaking/Cellars operations.
  • 1-2 years management experience
  • Sparkling winemaking
