Summary:

The Dragan Brewing & Wine Company is looking to hire for the position of Head Brewer. The Head Brewer is responsible for the day to day operations in the brewery. This position will manage the Brewing team and work directly with the Vice President of Brewery Operations/QA/QC to ensure all beer is produced to the highest standard. The Head Brewer will be responsible to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and will be ensuring those SOPs and Key Performance indicators (KPIs) are followed on every shift and throughout the brewing process.



Responsibilities (include but not limited to):


Reporting to the Vice President of Brewery Operations, the Head Brewer is responsible and accountable for all elements of the following production elements:

 

·         Overseeing the entire brewing process including:

o   Timelines and quality in the execution of the process

o   Fermentation, dry hopping, filtration and brite tanks carbonation

o   Preparation of beer for co-packing to meet beer release dates and true to market inventory levels.

·         Managing and improving success parameters

·         Achieving targets and reduce variances on attributes of quality

·         Managing labour schedules/costs/teams and ingredients costs through KPIs and process improvements

·         Implementation and management of our inventory control process; adhering to ingredients usage standards; control levels of inventory and instructing procurement

·         Liaise with the Executive Management team to coordinate activities and report on results/progress

·         Advise the Vice President of Brewery Operations on changes to recipes and processes to meet the established beer profile

·         Execution and delivery on specific beer development tasks as assigned by the Vice President of Brewery Operations, including but not limited to operations production and the piloting schedule 

·         Working closely with QA team to meet quality parameters and promote continual improvement

·         Working with the purchasing department for procurement of ingredients to achieve the highest quality product in line with the mandated formulation.

·         Maintaining excellent employer-employee relationships; keeping employees up-to-date with changes that affect their work and knowledge; assign/provide proper training, and supervising staff during their shifts.

·         Ensure that the Brewing division is in its best state; promote and reinforce 5S, GMPs, cleanliness and maintaining equipment functionality to keep all items and processes within the established governmental code and regulations.

·         Lead/drive health & safety standards within the brewing team; strictly enforce the company health and safety policies

·         Working with the Vice President of Brewery Operations to define and develop SOPs that ensure up to date standardization of methods and processes

·         Develop task schedules to optimize productivity, and controls to accurately track progress

·         Ensuring that the brewing/cellar waste water is managed according to our waste system capacity and process.

·         Scheduling staff (work schedule); ensuring optimum team capability utilization through task planning; work shifts only when necessary (primarily working dayshift)

·         Evaluating all staff under the Head Brewers supervision

·         Represent Dragan Brewing & Wine Company by attending select public events identified by Executive Management Team.

 

Qualifications:

·         3-5 years of Head Brewer experience with results derived from exceptional brewing skills

·         Outstanding beer knowledge and ability to disseminate/communicate this knowledge in a friendly, effective, and passionate manner

·         Exceptional leadership skills, demonstrating the ability to lead and motivate teams of up to 10 highly trained employees.  Leadership skills to develop employees expertise and team capabilities

·         Excellent logistical and planning skills with critical thinking capability; ability to foresee opportunities or obstacles, and plan accordingly

·         Dedication to quality and safety

·         Strong experience with 5S, KPIs, and CTQs

·         SAP skills an asset 

·         Excellent organizational skills and project management skills; ability to work projects within a Critical Path process and operate well under pressure

·         Education from an accredited brewing program an asset.

·         Excited and motivated by a role in management

·         Ability to lift heavy objects repeatedly and safely

·         Comfortable working in confined spaces, from elevated platforms and ladders, using fall protection.

·         Creative & enthusiastic

·         Ability to work successfully and efficiently as a team, and independently.

·         Ability to speak to both small and large groups of people comfortably.

 

 

Goals (include but not limited to):

 

·         Achieve average score of 90% on the 6S audits

·         Meet 100% of the beer release dates

·         Meet overall departmental spending budget targets (labor and expenses)

·         Meet cost of ingredients targets and reduce waste targets

·         Achieve a zero accident rate score

·         Improve overall yields through repeat productions

·         Implement a strategic/tactical approach in production: use of data, root causing, networking, industry knowledge expertise

·         Achieved results and rationale from the production approach

·         Identify areas for improvement in key spending accounts related to brewing, e.g. CO2 usage; baseline and set targets

·         Transition CO2, water, labor into BOMs

·         Other goals to meet business needs
