We are hiring a Senior Winemaker based in North Okanagan who will be responsible for all of Andrew Peller Ltd BC Wineries. This is a rare opportunity to join a leading Canadian company in our pursuit for innovation and extraordinary winemaking. This role is a critical leadership position in our Canadian Winemaking team – it will report directly to the EVP Winemaking and has 4 direct reports including winemakers from our BC wineries - Tinhorn Creek, Black Hills, Sandhill, and Gray Monk. Responsibilities include advising and directing Winemaking for Sparkling, Table, Icewine, Cider, Fortified and ICB programs.

JOB PURPOSE
- Lead the BC winemaking team in the successful execution of all winemaking activities in conjunction with key cross-functional stakeholders to develop a winning culture of wine.
- Collaborate and execute on APL’s Winemaking vision and strategy for Building Brands and driving Top-Line Growth
- Enhance Andrew Peller’s reputation as Canada’s most successful wine and Craft alcohol producer by focusing on harmonizing product cost and wine quality
- Drive Thought Leadership through innovation and Best in Class Winemaking in conjunction with identifying and implementing Operational Efficiencies
- Partner with Operations in the pursuit of Operations Excellence.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Strategic Planning, Development and Execution of all wine and non-wine corporate initiatives with EVP Operations.
- Plan, direct and execute all winemaking activities with the Winemaking and Operations teams for all wines in the identified locations, from grape and bulk wine procurement through to bottling.
- Lead and direct the Winemaking team to ensure wines are made to the highest possible standard and volume to achieve Marketing success within corporate specifications.
- In conjunction with EVP Operations, Viticulture and Supply teams, plan and execute harvest strategy and grape Supply balancing, including the BC VQA Replacement Program.
- Manage and develop Winemaking bench-strength with a focus on talent development and the technical innovation of process and equipment.
- Prepare, monitor and control annual Winemaking PMC budget and establish Capital requirements in line with company growth objectives.
- Through practical research, technical literature and industry exposure, maintain a knowledge of present and future trends in Winemaking techniques and styles
- Work closely with Director of Winemaking on strategic planning and growth initiatives.
- Maintain accurate reporting of winemaking activities with full legal and regulatory compliance.
- Represent APL and associated brands as they relate to Marketing/ Public Relations initiatives and Industry initiatives, committees and events.
- Maintain Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental programs as per corporate guidelines.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE
- Hons. BSc – Oenology and Viticulture, or related degree.
- Min. 10 years Winemaking experience
- Min 3 years People Management experience
- Proven Viticultural experience and technical foundation in the process of winemaking.
- Proven ability to influence internal and external stakeholders including regulators, industry organizations and Company stakeholders
- Possess strong leadership, training, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to coach and mentor the North Okanagan Winemaking team and establish a culture of continuous improvement towards Best in Class.
$130-$140k base salary, depending on experience brought to the role.
