The Senior Viticulturist is responsible for the performance and operational efficiency of all owned and leased vineyards in the Okanagan Valley. With a technical and research-driven mindset, the Senior Viticulturist will lead the BC Vineyard Operations team to maximize fruit quality and vineyard health with a focus on sustainability and continuous improvement.

We are looking for a teammate with:

  • B.Sc. or higher Oenology and Viticulture, or related degree.
  • Minimum 5 years Premium Vineyard Management experience
  • Illustrated success growing quality fruit and a keen understanding of the foundations to grow healthy, balanced vineyards
  • Proven experience using technical expertise to guide complex analysis and organization of viticultural operations across multiple locations and programs
  • Self-starter and highly organized with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and multiple tasks within tight timelines
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and influence others.
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Possess strong leadership, training, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to coach and mentor the Vineyard team and establish a culture of continuous improvement towards Best in Class.
  • Excellent use of MS Office Suite and experience with ABS, IPM, Regulatory - Organic, Sustainability, BC VQA, SRED, MVIP.

This teammate will be accountable for:

  • Leading the growing of all APL BC grape supply through a program based on precision viticulture to drive quality, sustainability, performance, and vineyard efficiency
  • Provide strategic planning input on overall BC grape supply (planting, lease, GSA)
  • Accountable for the profitable and safe operations of APL owned vineyards Gray Monk, Tinhorn Creek and Black Hills including Capital program and Operational budgets
  • Work with Vineyard Managers to develop and ensure best practices are the core of all APL vineyard operations including but not limited to IPM, vineyard amendments, pruning, canopy and soil management, irrigation management, yield, vine nutrition and frost protection.
  • Oversee and manage North and South Vineyard Managers - provide direction for their programs and teams
  • Provide technical expertise and viticultural direction to Managers of leased vineyard properties
  • Responsible for BC Vineyard capital projects on APL owned/leased vineyard land including planting and equipment
  • Provide leadership and project management for large scale replanting and virus management projects
  • Ensure all grapes are compliant with ABS grape specification
  • Provide viticultural expertise and input to APL contracted grape growers as required
  • Help to facilitate the Sparkling, Table and Icewine harvests in conjunction with Winemaking and Operations.
  • Responsible for training and development of the Vineyard Operations team to ensure all safety procedures and requirements are followed in accordance with H&S policy.
  • Promote, manage and report on R&D initiatives to enhance vineyard sustainability, performance and operation
  • Actively participate in VQA Winemaking tastings, provide feedback and support to Winemaking team.
  • Works closely with Vineyard Operations Manager to oversee the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program
