Cellar Assistant
(Wine Jobs:
Vineyards & Cellars )
Full Time
Oliver,
British Columbia
We're looking for a strong candidate to work in our cellar for the 2018 vintage! We're just a little larger than a garage winery, so this is a great place to learn.
Duties include re-harvest sampling and bunch counts/weights, preparing grape intake area and equipment (crusher/destemmer, elevator and sorting table, auger pump, two-ton bladder press, picking bins), grape receival (weighing and recording fruit intake, enzyme and crush additions, tank cleaning, pressing, racking, barrel filling, fermentation management, delestage, regular density checks on wines, pumpovers/punchdowns, drain and press for reds, and batonnage (lees stirring) for barrel-fermented whites.
Applicants must love wine and be willing to learn, and observe the dynamics of the cellar. We need someone who will follow directions carefully, take care of the wines as well as the equipment, and who likes to get into the details of each process. This is a good role if you have some hustle—we like energy in both cellar and tasting room roles! Forklift experience is nice, but not required. We have an electric pallet jack that must be used for barrel work.
Additionally, applicants must have accommodation in the Okanagan, and reliable transportation. They must be physically fit and be comfortable lifting and carrying at least 50 lbs and able to work longer days (10-12 h and/or 6 day weeks) when necessary. Attention to detail and safety is a must. This role has the potential to extend into a permanent full-time position that can include vineyard work in the new year.
We'd love to have you join our team and we are looking forward to a brilliant vintage!
