Job Description:
We are currently recruiting for a detail orientated, passionate, team leader who is able to get individuals motivated to achieve department goals to fill the position of Lead Cellar Hand based out of Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Estate Winery.
We are a full-service operation from harvest through to final distribution; operating year round and producing some of the industry’s most awarded wines. The Role:
As a Lead Cellar Hand you will work closely with our Winemaking team in the creation of our award winning wines. This role is responsible for supervision of their shift to facilitate all cellar operations, meet production schedules, and quality objectives.
Your key responsibilities and duties are as follows:
- Supervises their shift efficiently facilitating all work orders prepared by Winemaking/Commercial Product Administrator in an organized, prioritized and safe manner.
- Inspects all work orders to ensure that lines are properly hooked up and to the correct tanks on all transfers of liquid
- In cooperation with Cellar Supervisor and Winemakers; ensures work orders are completed correctly and signed off.
- Liaise with Cellar Supervisor on a daily and weekly basis, keeping them informed of any issues.
- Ensures blends are prepared on their shift in a timely fashion available to meet the production schedule.
- Works alongside Cellar Supervisor to ensure proper sundries, supply inventories and cellar equipment parts are maintained to meet the requirements of the Cellar.
- Keeps Cellar Supervisor aware of any issues with equipment or infrastructure to ensure that all cellar equipment functions and is maintained to meet OEM specifications.
- Works alongside Cellar Supervisor to execute implementation and operation of ISO & HACCP standards to ensure corporate objectives are met.
- In cooperation with Cellar Supervisor, ensures a safe work environment & safety orientated culture. Serves on committees associated with on-going Health & Safety improvement processes.
- Aids Cellar Supervisor and Winemaking to process improvements to reduce waste and other processes associated with environment preservation.
- Maintains positive relations with Cellar Hands, Departmental Supervisors and other staff. Ensures that cellar staff perform tasks that they have received adequate training for to comply with health and safety guidelines.
- Distributes work orders to staff to meet the work load in the cellar.
- Attends regular meetings with other Cellar Lead Hands and Supervisor; communicates and documents all relevant information to ensure smooth transition
- Other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required (Post-Secondary Education in Winemaking or Management an Asset)
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working in a fast-paced Winery Cellar (Experience in a mid to large size winery an asset)
- Strong commitment to quality with attention to detail.
- Candidate must be hands on, dependable, and self-starting.
- Good problem solving abilities along with basic logistic skills required.
- Knowledge of safe cellar practices, including safe handling of chemicals.
- Ability to be trained in confined space entry process and procedures.
- Knowledge of winery cellar operating procedures.
- Teamwork and customer service skills.
- Ability to work shift work including weekends
- Ability to understand and perform mathematic calculations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Maintain an organized work place.
- Ability to lift 55 lbs.
