Phantom Creek Estates is a highly anticipated new winery located on the famed Black Sage Bench of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, specializing in single vineyard Bordeaux reds, Alsatian whites and the Okanagan’s benchmark varieties of Viognier and Syrah from storied vineyard sites. By farming its vineyards with care and precision, Phantom Creek produces wines that celebrate and speak to where they are grown. The winery’s estate vineyards, including the acclaimed Phantom Creek Vineyard, are in transition to organic and biodynamic certification.
We are currently recruiting for a Cellar Hand/Laboratory Technician to join our team. This full-time, benefited position will be based in the winery on Black Sage Road in Oliver, British Columbia and serves to assist in the efficient and effective execution of all cellar operations while being lab orientated.
The two essential functions for this dynamic role are:
· Following the plan of the Winemaker, the direction of the Assistant Winemaker and Cellar Master in relation to daily winemaking tasks from harvest to bottling. You will be required to execute multistep winemaking procedures and operate all manner of winery equipment.
· Your responsibilities also extend to carrying out, being responsible for, and recording all lab analysis for PCE. Including grape ripeness samples, juice, fermentation, pre and post bottling wine analysis. At current production levels, this is your core responsibility from August till Late January.
The successful candidate will likely have:
· A formal Winemaking or a Science Degree in a related field.
· Practical knowledge of winemaking with a minimum of 3 years cellar work experience.
· Excellent record keeping and communication skills.
· A personality that fosters collaboration and a positive working environment
Phantom Creek Estates has invested significantly in the development of its estate vineyards in the Southern Okanagan, as such we will be experiencing year on year growth in production over the immediate short term. We are seeking a self-motivating person, who with development and training will be successful in growing this role with the increasing production demands of the next few years.
