Le Vieux Pin winery and Lastella winery are two boutique wineries from the South Okanagan, BC, Canada. The two wineries have upwards of 80 acres of prime vineyards in Oliver’s Golden Mile and Black Sage Bench, as well as the Osoyoos Lake district. In their commitment to excellence, LaStella and Le Vieux Pin practice low input viticulture and sustainable farming, employing deficit irrigation to achieve low yields and complex, concentrated flavors in their grapes. Both wineries are producing ultra-premium wines and every step of the process is detailed oriented from the vineyard to the bottle.
We are looking for a highly motivated Cellar Master to join our passionate team.
Yearly tasks in the cellars:
- Perform daily winemaking task during the year
- General cleaning of entire production area (Labs, wineries, cellars, crush-pads, bathrooms) including;
o Floors, tanks, barrels, shelves, toilets
o Maintaining and optimizing organization of all these areas
- Maintain ullage levels on all barrels (Monthly top-up)
- Setup and calibration of Lab equipment
- Collecting samples and completing laboratory analysis on all tanks and barrels to ensure proper QC on a monthly basis
- Participate in sensory analysis of wine
- Maintain inventory on all bulk wine, equipment, chemicals and gasses
- Perform data entry on analysis, daily work orders and inventories in the traceability software
- Maintain the sustainability program with the help of the Assistant Winemaker and the Winemaker
- Provide additional help wherever needed in the company (retail, warehouse, office, vineyard)
Harvest and Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manage the team at the Lastella site
- Ensure that only quality practices are always used in the cellar
- Organize daily tasks and ensure efficiency within operations under the supervision of the Winemaker
- Daily monitoring and documenting of fermentations for progress and quality control
- Tend to grape receiving including weighing and quality monitoring of contracted grapes
- Perform must additions and yeast inoculations
- Setup, breake-down and sanitation of all crush equipment
- Perform pump-overs, punch-downs, delestage, transfers and barrel work and oversee others who are performing them
Requirements:
- Be hands on and able to work in a dynamic fast paced team environment
- Manage and organize his/her time according to the direction given by the Winemaker
- Show a high degree of organization skills and attention to details
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to communicate well with supervisors and others
- Demonstrate a team spirit while being able to work on its own
- Respect the hygiene and safety procedures
- Full driver’s license and clean driving record
- Must be a Canadian Citizen – or – have residency status
- Forklift experience
- Proficient in Microsoft word and Excel and comfortable with working on a computer
- Must meet physical demands including: standing for long periods of time, navigating stairs, working in various weather conditions, lifting up to 20 kg, working at heights
- Certificate or enology diploma required
- Will need to have completed at least one harvest
Salary will be based on experience.
