The Oliver Tourism Association (OTA) is destination marketing association that provides tourism services and marketing to its membership and the community of Oliver and surrounding area (RDOS Area C). We strive to promote Oliver, the Wine Capital of Canada, as a prominent place to visit in BC. We execute and support many festivals and events including our two signature events, The Festival of the Grape and Cask N Keg

What you will do
Summary of primary job functions
The Executive Director is a visionary leader, and under the direction of the Board of Directors, is responsible for achieving the strategic goals and outcomes of OTA. Together, the Board and Executive Director ensure the accomplishment of the mission and vision, and are accountable to the Town of Oliver, the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen Area C, OTA’s membership and stakeholders.
The Board delegates responsibility to the Executive Director to make all necessary decisions to facilitate the day to day operations of the organization. The Executive Director provides direction to the Visitor Services Manager, staff and volunteers and enables the Board to carry out its governance functions. You will be the lead point of interaction with the membership through effective engagement and enhanced communications. You will work to raise OTAs fiscal capacity and manage budgets, financial planning and bookkeeping.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, and its Committees, you will assist in creating and executing the marketing and communication strategies of the organization. You also will play a supporting role in event coordination & executing events.
Duties and responsibilities
General
Acting as an ambassador for OTA and Oliver, BC
Executes board-approved policies
Directs and oversees short and long term strategic plans
Attends Board and committee meetings
Attend training and development sessions with OOWA
Provides leadership to organization through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication
Manages employees, contract staff and volunteers
Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, other destination marketing organization, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of OTA
Identify and evaluate the risks to OTA (management, volunteers, property, finances, goodwill, and image) and implement measures to control risks
Administration
Works with the Board of Directors on governance policy issues by providing support and by initiating approved recommendations or actions
Ensures compliance to minimum standards in accordance with all government legislation, regulations and guidelines pertinent to the organization’s role as an employer and non-profit organization
Recommends to the Board changes to policies and procedures that would improve the organization
Submits all information, reports and records as requested or required to the Board of Directors and or committee members
Develops and implements operational plans, policies, and goals that further strategic objectives
Providing regular information updates via email to the membership and answering member questions
Financial
Maintain full awareness of the complete financial, statistical, and accounting records of the organization
Ensure that operating results established in the annual budget are achieved and control operating expenses within budget with quarterly reporting
Ensure accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial accounting and reporting
Ensure the preparation of the annual budget for board approval
Visitor Services
Work collaboratively with the Visitor Services Manager and Board of Directors to ensure we comply with our Visitor Services Network Program Agreement with Destination BC.
Supervise and support the Visitor Services Manager to ensure high quality service is maintained.
Identify and execute new projects and initiatives that will increase traffic to the visitor centre and/or bring visitor services to area travellers.
Marketing Coordination
- Manage content & visual collateral over multiple platforms including but not limited to: print, radio, signage, promo merchandise and digital media
- Manage ad buys over print and digital media
- Management and content creation over social media channels
- Host journalist and media visits to the region
- Identify new marketing opportunities
- Communication and plan execution
- Represent the organization when sponsoring other valuable events where our presence is an asset to the organization
Qualifications
Education
- University or college degree in a related field or equivalent proven related work experience
- Serving it Right Certificate
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/voluntary organizations
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations including: employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities and taxation
- Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of OTA
- Knowledge of human resources management
- Knowledge of financial management
- Knowledge of project management
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Confident communicator and spokesperson with the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to motivate and direct positive change management.
- Experience in the successful development and execution of strategic plan
- Experience in sponsorship, marketing and membership program development
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook), social media tools and web administration.
- Proven self-starter with demonstrated ability to recruit and engage individuals, facilitate collaboration, build consensus and deliver projects
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel

Experience
- 5 or more years of progressive management experience in a voluntary sector organization or tourism organization.
Working Conditions
- Fast paced environment – must be able to work under pressure and multitask
- Due to the nature of the tourism industry, you may be required to work on selected weekends, holidays and hours beyond the normal working day
Employment Type: Contract – Contractor to provide tools for job
Salary range: A competitive salary in the not for profit community commensurate with experience.
