Maverick Estate Winery is located on the Golden Mile Slopes between Oliver and Osoyoos and for the past decade has been making some of the most exciting wines in Canada. Family owned and operated, we are a tight knit team who create sensational, minimal intervention wines and welcoming, relaxed visitor experiences.
Responsibilities
We are a small, tight knit team and we all wear many hats. As Hospitality Associate you are our ambassadors at the winery, our enthusiasts, and experts on all things Maverick (don’t worry, we will share that bit!). Our goal is to make every guest happy they stopped by, give them a welcoming and enjoyable experience while they are here, and take a bit of our story (and hopefully a box of our wine!) home with them. Our true calling is to create memorable experiences and turn curious guests into enthusiasts who become fans of Maverick Estate Winery.
Teamwork
* We work as a team to exceed the expectations of our guests. No person is left standing and we all lend a hand.
* Involve our other teams whenever possible – whether it is stories from the vineyard, the cellar or out in the market, we share all things Maverick. And if you’re interested, you can cross train in other areas to see how your teammates spend their days!
Guest Experience
* While our service is standardized, our guest experience is unique – we share the winery story, tell about the wine, and ask about our guests’ day. Every guest should leave with something new; a fact, a story, a box of wine, and a smile on their face.
* All our guest experiences are private and seated (except for one spot for a quick taste at the tasting bar!) – we take the time to provide a memorable and leisurely experience.
* We try to extend our relationship with our guest beyond the cellar door – we welcome back club members, regulars, and locals, and invite guests to keep in touch through our club, email, phone, newsletter, notes under the desk, smoke signals or secret code - or just ask them to wave as they drive by.
* From May 2021, we will open our new desert garden wine experience area (name TBD), which we believe will be a unique experience in the Okanagan and a cool place to work!
Operations
* Opening, closing, restocking, shelving, polishing, cleaning – everything one would expect for a clean, professional service area.
* Entering orders (POS), signing up new club members, packing orders, helping guests get their wine to their car – all the things that keep the lights on.
* Look at how we do things (and how our neighbours do things!) with a critical eye so that we can constantly innovate, collaborate, and improve.
The Other Stuff that is Also Important
* Love people, hospitality, wine.
* Professional, friendly, patient, positive, respectful, and welcoming demeanour.
* Passion for wine is a must; wine education is a nice-to-have.
* Excellent communicator, or at least good communicator.
* Familiarity with point of sales systems is nice to have, ability to learn how to use one is a must.
* Must be able to stand much of the day, and able to lift a cases of wine (up to 40lbs) multiple times a day.
* Flexible schedule, ability to work weekends and until 5:30pm during the season from May to October.
* Valid Serving It Right Certificate, must be at least 19 years of age
