We are recruiting for passionate, enthusiastic, extraordinary Vineyard Leadhand to join our team at Black Hills Estate Winery. Black Hills Estate Winery is situated on the scenic Black Sage Bench in Oliver, British Columbia and has been producing premium wine in this region since 1999. Known for the Nota Bene Bordeaux inspired blend, our focus is precise vineyard management, minimal intervention in the winery, and world class wine experiences offered to the thousands of visitors we see annually.
Reporting into the Vineyard Manager, as the Vineyard Leadhand you will oversee the day to day completion of tasks on a specific vineyard, maintaining high quality fruit production, as well direct and assist with leading vineyard staff. In addition, you will be responsible for recruitment, training and overseeing seasonal vineyard teammates.
We are looking for a teammate with:
- Three to five years' experience in vineyard and a thorough understanding of viticulture; BS in Viticulture desirable
- Ability to operator equipment, including a tractor; must have a Valid BC driver's license and insurability
- Experience working around equipment, trucks, work crews and natural landscape
- Experience and proven track record in making sound decisions and the management of company rules, policies and safety practices
- Leadership experience and a commitment to excellence and high standards
- Strong organizational & communication skills
- Ability to prioritize, multitask and work under pressure in fast paced environment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, weekends and evenings as required
- Able to repeatedly lift and carry 40 pounds desired
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- A passion for the wine industry and a desire to pour extraordinary into everyday life
You will be accountable for:
- Assisting with the development and executive of the annual vineyard plan
- Assisting with maintenance and troubleshooting of irrigation system, and operation of all vineyard equipment
- Operating a tractor as well installing future vines; calibration and use agricultural implements
- Appling plant sprays following established safety procedures
- Working with Vineyard Management on special projects; assisting Vineyard Manager develop output standards and schedules for vineyard field work
- Assisting Vineyard Manager develop output standards and schedules for vineyard field work
- Monitoring and undertaking sugar sampling (brix samples) of grapes in designated areas
- Directing vineyard seasonal teammates in vineyard activities and addressing issues related to seasonal vineyard teammates
- Member of Vineyard Safety and Health Committee and promoting a health & safety
