Montalvino Wineries is new family-owned group of 3 boutique wineries spanning from Osoyoos to Naramata. We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a talented individual to join our Team as a Winemaker on a full-time basis.

As the Winemaker for Montalvino Wineries Inc, you will be responsible for the cellar management and coordination of all winemaking processes from harvest through to billing, ensuring efficient operations and the production of the best quality wine.

As a detail-orientated and organized professional, you will work closely with the Vineyard Manager to ensure the best quality of wines for all three wineries. You will work with the Director of Sales and Marketing to ensure our evolving brand development is supported by increased, consistent quality production.

Roles and Responsibilities:

·       Provide leadership to cellar personnel to promote and protect wine quality.

·       Assist in all recruitment and development of cellar team, including seasonal team.

·       Issue and assign work orders for all daily activities, and manage harvest interns.

·       Assist with budget planning, including capital spend forecasting, procurement and equipment commissioning, as well as managing and monitoring an operating budget.

·       Development of cellar procedures and systems to maintain an organized and efficient production space.

·       Management of production requirements between three facilities.

·       Communicate with management on the status of the respective ferments, movements, and cellar activities/processes.

·       Actively participate in tastings of juices, ferments and finished wines

·       Preparation of and interpretation of lab results and related work planning.

·       Proficient winemaking sensory skills and ability to rectify any non-conforming products.

·       Responsible for maintaining clean and sanitary environment of the cellars

·       Management of information pertaining to VQA, ensuring wines are submitted in a timely fashion.

·       Participates on Industry committees as required.

·       Verification of Bills of Lading, shipping and receiving of wine and barrels between winery locations.

·       Follows safe work processes and report all deviations.

·       SOP creation, management and implementation Ensures a safe and healthy work environment through the effective operation of the Health and Safety program and joint H&S committee.

·       Assures the safety of employees through compliance with regulations.

 

We are looking for a teammate with:

·       Recognized University Degree/College Diploma in Oenology, Winemaking, Viticulture or related field.

·       5+ years of Cellar management experience

·       Strong attention to detail; Excellent written and oral communication skills.

·       Supervisory experience and a commitment to excellence and best in class standards.

·       Strong organizational and analytical skills.

·       Ability to prioritize, manage workflow, use good judgment to make timely and sound decisions.
